| Welcome to the cX Mafia Rules Page. cX Mafia (introduced to the site by the lovely and talented Scott A. Williams) is a game based upon other popular Mafia games. To learn more about Mafia in general, check out this site - reading through it will help teach you the ins and outs of Mafia in general, and could provide some concepts and gameplay tactics that are applicable to the cX Themed versions.
So far, cX Mafia has been Comic Book Themed, with "Heroes" taking the role of the "Town" and "Villains" taking the role of the Mafia. This instruction page only contains specific role information about already completed games - this is to allow ongoing Game Moderators to invent new roles and spring them on unexpecting players without warning. As unknown is so essential to a successful game, this page will try to preserve that. The instructions you find here will, however, teach you enough to play the game successfully. Just watch out for twists! In future, details of the various game elements of different themes will be detailed here. To begin with, only specifics about the basic Heroes & Villains version will be featured here. Banish: To eliminate a player as a result of a Vote to Lynch Faction: A group or a team within the game with a common victory condition. Hero: A member of the Hero Faction Lynch: The result of a successful vote during the Day Phase. The Lynched player is Banished. Mason Group: A group of typically Heroes that meet at night, can communicate in secret, and know each other's Roles and Identities. Night Ability: An ability one player has that can be used at night. Roleclaiming: A public pronouncement by a player about their Identity, Role, or Ability. While not illegal, such a pronouncement is generally unreliable and is discouraged. Sanity Issues: A modifier used to describe a player's Role. An Insane Detective's ability will not work properly, for example. Usually a player is initially unaware that their ability function's abnormally. Villain: A member of the Villain Faction Vote: Selection made by each player during the day phase, generally to choose a lynching victim. The Dead and the Banished do not speak. A particular Watcher may be lax on this rule, but a good guide is - if you are eliminated, don't post anything, and don't talk to players still in the game about what is happening. There will be plenty of time for discussion when the game ends. The game ends when members of only one faction remain, or sometimes when a particular character has achieved their own personal victory conditions. |
Overview
cX Mafia is played by a group of people, each playing the role of either a murderous Villain (Mafia), or a Noble Hero (Townsperson), along with a Watcher (Game Moderator). The game is divided into Day and Night phases. During the Day phase, the Heroes try to root out the evil in their town by voting to lynch another player, hopefully to eliminate a Villain from the game, or at the very least gain information that will help them discover who is on what side. During the Night phase, the Villians communicate with one another (they know each other's identities), and select one victim to kill. The game alternates between Day and Night, until one faction is eliminated. If your role doesn't allow you to communicate outside the game, don't. Cheating ruins the game for everyone, and will not be tolorated. If you are caught cheating, you are subject to a 1 Week Ban from the site for a first offense. Plus, no one will want to play with you anymore. Is it worth it? Each player is assigned a role at the beginning of the game. This will determine their faction, and any special abilities the character might have. In previous games, the following roles have been assigned.
The above listed are just basic roles, but more advanced games bring many more concepts and abilities into play, including extra factions, insanity issues, incompetance, and even posting restrictions. You can be sure that future cX Mafia games will include other elements beyond the ones listed. To learn more about the other potential game elements that could be included, pay a visit to MafiaScum.net and read up on the game. Beware - these are not the only things that can be done in a game of Mafia - the Watcher might just invent new roles and rules to suit a theme! Day Phase During the Day, the Town debates on another player to Banish (effectively a kill). Of course, the Heroes generally want to kill a Villain, so the goal during this time is to try and figure out who are Heroes and who are Villains. The Villains participate in this discussion and vote as well, in an effort to obscure their identity or to implicate a Hero and get them lynched. The Day Phase will continue until a preset deadline time, or until the Watcher decides (for any reason) to advance the Day to Night. If the Town has accumulated enough votes to convict, the selected player will be Banished, and their role revealed to all. To vote, you should do so in the following manner: Vote: Player Name To change your vote: Unvote: Player Name Night Phase During the Night, the Villains conspire, and decide who to kill. In addition, players with various Night Abilities can send their actions to the Watcher. Night will continue until a predetermined time, or until the Watcher decides that enough people have submitted their actions to advance the stage to Day. |
