I don't know if Blake or anyone brought this up yet, but I found this out on another board and I thought I'd share it with you....

Gail Simone writing Action...darn it, if I didn't already have too many books to buy.
I also found out that Ed Benes is leaving BoP for Superman...
Arrghhh.
At this rate I'm heading for a Superman overload.
Any comments...?

Well, this is some tremendously good news for fans of Superman, so that's good. I'm surprised, however, that they've tapped John Byrne to team with her though. Could be interesting... :p

I'm curious to see what's going to happen with JB working with Gail as well. Seems like a real odd-couple. I guess I'm used to Ed Bene's Jim Lee-style of art, so I'm having problems picturing her words coming from Byrne's artwork.

Supes is going to be awesome in 2005. You get Simone on Action, Rucka on Adventures, and then Benes is doing the art for Superman with Mark Verheiden writing (don't know his writing well but Benes art is on point). Plus Morrison and Quitely on All Star. I am going to put myself in the poor house getting all these DC books.

Well, jon, you forgot Jeph Loeb on Batman/Superman, which I've found myself suddenly a fan of, so yea, 2005 is going to be a banner year for the Man of Steel.

Good point estee, that book is my top DC monthly pick and does not look to be losing any steam.

Sadly Loeb is leaving with issue #25. :sigh:

Gail Simone's great, but I'm not a fan of Byrne. His art is so dated.
Superman is getting quite the team in Benes and Verheiden. One draws really hot chicks and the other writes for "Smallville." Cool beans.

How, exactly, is it "dated?" Just because it's the same style he used 20 years ago? It's still a good style. Byrne's writing hasn't been up to snuff the last few years, but his art is as good as ever -- I'm glad to see him on Action again.

For Byrne's most recent renditions of Superman in the JLA and SUPERMAN : TRUE BRIT, check out the complete pencils to those stories in the link below:
http://jbgallery.ourbunch.net/pencilscans.html
Also, much of his work you will find in Byrne's online gallery of pencil scans has been drawn at his usual rate of around 2 or 3 pages a day, the same pace that will allow him to keep up with three monthly books (DOOM PATROL and BLOOD OF THE DEMON)

Blake are you serious? Loeb gone at #25? That is the worst news I have had in a while. Do you know who is replacing him? or where he is going after? Damn, that blows.

Yeah, they announced that quite a long time ago. No news on a replacement or on Loeb's next gig at DC, though.

Gail Simone for Chuck Austen: Good Trade
John Byrne for Ivan Reis: Bad, Bad Trade

I agree. Why replace Ivan Reis?
Blake Petit

Reis' artwork is good (except for the worst rendition of Jimmy Olsen I've ever seen) but I'm not going to complain about Byrne on pencils.
