Review:
This issue is the second issue under new management. With Marz and Choi pulling out all the stops to capture the attention of both new and die-hard fans.
Upon Sara’s recovery from a three week coma, she meets Gleason in the Hospital chapel. Their discussion leads the duo to the scene of the incident in the hopes of jogging her memory. This issue is basically a revelation for both Sara and Gleason, full of intricate dialogue.
Story: I admit I was leery of accepting a new writer, but Ron Marz now has a new stalker! ( I say that in jest of course .) But the man draws you in so quickly and just holds you there until he is done crafting the story. I usually do my reviews with an initial thumbthrough to get the total image, then take turns concentrating on writing and art respectively. This is the FIRST time that I could not do a complete scan in my normal fashion, as the writing caught my attention right away and made it impossible for me to put it down.
I mentioned earlier that this issue had intricate dialogue, and by that I mean that not only does the action wane a bit to give you more insight into a smaller space in time; but the intensity of the exchange is refreshing to say the least.
Art: Choi also may need to lock his doors now, his WitchBlade is AWESOME! She is gorgeous, expressive and above all, strong! They say the eyes are the window to the soul, and Choi illustrates that perfectly. He depicts a Sara of dignity and a quiet sensuality without pandering to the skin trade like so many do.
Choi does not draw characters, he creates PEOPLE. And every time you look at one of their faces you see something new that shows you even more of who they are.
Cover by Greg Land, who I am already enamoured with. Once again, a work of art.
Overall, I am anxiously waiting the next issue! I was given but a taste of this story and I want more! Seriously guys, worth a second or third read!
