Review: What can I say; this book is almost flawless in the narrative and artistic standpoint.
We have on one side of the book a battle between Hyperion and the very first villain of this book, who made his first appearance a couple of issues back, and the remaining members of the Hyperion team and the government convening to decide the fate of the new race of super powers, especially Mark Milton.
The melee that began in issue twelve continues across America between Hyperion and his polar opposite, which results in the villain cutting a bloody swath through unknowing innocents that stand in the way. Most of the sequences display very little word balloons, however with these particular chain of events that unfold, it becomes somewhat redundant. Hyperion’s sense of self-doubt that has plagued him since he found out that his heritage was a sham subsides when he has to put a stop to the menace that may imperil all of humanity. Though he could have taken the path to the dark-side, he still holds on to the values of preserving human life even though his conditioning was supposed to change him into a living weapon. There is also some friction in Hyperion’s rag tag team – mostly on the part of Nighthawk. Nighthawk still seems to wrestle with his consciencewhen it comes to find a balance of what is morally just, which makes his affiliation with Hyperion all the more harder since their opinions tend to differ from one another.
The government takes equal billing in this issue as well. It was stated not to long ago that there have been other test subjects that project Hyperion had experimented upon to replicate the powers that Mark Milton currently displays. More revelations become available as to what they had done and why they need to put Mark Milton on a tight leash by whatever means necessary by calling in the aid of Dr. Spectrum.
Gary Frank’s dynamic style as always brings a lot of vibrancy to the pages. His command of action and human expressions is always very satisfactory and has probably gotten even better since the two-month hiatus of the title.
It can’t get any better than what I had just mentioned here folks, but I have a feeling that I may be wrong.
