Review: This review would've been posted earlier, but I've been busy petitioning the Vatican to consider Andy Hartnell for sainthood. The finale to this story arc is epic and more than makes up for the previous so-so issue. It has opened my heart to forgive Devil's Due for the lame photo-variant covers. I'm still having trouble wrapping my mind around the overwhelming amount of sheer awesomeness contained within these pages.
Ash is in rare form, his snarky one-liners are snarkier than ever. There are little Great Gazoo looking Ashes, medieval blast from the past Ash and the return of Evil Ash. According to the national standard of weights and measures this is certifiably more Ashes than one can shake a stick at. What makes this issue so great is that it focuses almost exclusively on what Ash does best: kicking *** and taking names. And he's given a prime opportunity to do so when Evil Ash awakens a new army of deadites.
Also to be honored and congratulated is artist Nick Bradshaw, who has outdone himself. Ash is finally framed up in the heroic angles and poses he deserves. Bradshaw has moved far beyond the cluttered jungles of the previous issue and crafted a stunning battle where the action is a-plentiful, but never confusing. Some of the best panels include Ash at the bottom of a dogpile of deadites and Ash multi-tasking with his chainsaw and his boomstick. The deadites are looking better than ever. They are more faithful to the skeleton soldiers in the film than the bad guys with psoriasis in issues past. By far the most excellent feature of this issue are the not one, but two, yes two, stellar two-page spreads. One features our heroes and the other the new army of deadites.
This fabulous conclusion has re-ignited my flame for the series and has left me jonesing for the upcoming Shop 'Til You Drop arc.
