View Full Version : A few Superman Family questions

Time to show everyone how little I know about the Man of Steel.
1) What exactly is the "Kryptonian Battle Suit", and what benefit does Superman get from wearing it?
2) What exactly was the Entropy Aegis (or Aegis Entorpy, I've seen it written both ways so many times I don't know which is right), and what did it do?
3) Does Eradicator ever use any weapons? If yes, what are they?
4) Where did General Zod (the armored one) get his power from? How powerful was he, and is he still at the same level?
Thanks in advance.

1. The battle suit protects him from kryptonite and offers limited red sun protection.
2. If I recall correctly, it was the armor created from the material from a destroyed Imperiex probe.
3. Not really, he's got near Superman level strength and speed and energy attacks.
4. Zod I believe was a clone of Superman or genetically altered to be Superman only evil. He was as powerful as Superman if not more so since his suit directly fed in solar radiation. He's currently dead, but that may change, he broke his neck flying into Superman when they changed the sun back to yellow.

I thought Zod was General Zod from Krypton. He was a respected military leader.
In the Silver Age/Pre-Crisis world he survived Krypton through the Phantom Zone. And he occassionally escapes to try and conquer Earth. Only to be thwarted by Superman every time.
I am not sure how this General Zod survived Krypton. Anyone know?

All I know is that it sure looks like he's back in Superman right now... and only two issues of that dragging storyline left. :p

I am no expert, but supermanfan said Zod escaped Kypton through the phantom zone and every now and then emerges to run amok. Well the curretn Superman story is currently in the phantom zone, so wouldn't it make sens that Zod is there? Wow this actaully explains a bit of Azz run if this is right. Thanks maybe now I can potentially figure out what the heck is happening.

But my understanding (limited as it is) is that the most recent Zod, who looked like that, was a genetically altered human being who was given superman's powers but that reacted to a red sun instead of a normal yellow sun. He possibly heard a voice that could have been the original General Zod, but that was the most of that connection.

Saints be praised! It's been an ordeal but my inner voice has been screaming 'Finish out the arc!' for 6 months now. Finally I'll be able to drop it!

The most recent Zod was a genetically altered human, not the original from Krypton.

2) I think it was the armor made to withstand Darkseid's Omega Effect.

I have a question
How many/who are the current supergirls in the dc universe?
Okay this is what i know(its probably all wrong). There was an original pre-crisis supergirl, wore blue top, red skirt, blond, i think her name was kara and she was supermans cousin. She died in the whole crisis on infinite earths thing.
Okay, posy-crisis, the first supergirl had something to do with lex luthor, i want to say that she's a clone but i know thats not right. She wore the classic supergirl outfit.
The second supergirl was like a merged supergirl of the first one and some girl and she got some weird angel power. Same supergirl look.
The third was the second supergirl without the angel power, and thats when she took on the white top that was used in the superman animated series. I dunno what happaned to her.
The forth supergirl wore a black dress with s in red on the front and had dark black hair. She was in the superman/batman issue where the superman team stormed the white house.
The fifth is the new one from the second superman/batman story-arc. The old cousin from krypton storyline, names zora, and wheres the classic blue outfit with the red skirt.

From what I understand, you pretty much have the right of it.

Only thing wrong is the current Supergirl is Kara. You forgot Cira-El.

Curses!
I was about to link to the Supergirl column I wrote last year. Wouldn't you know it was the LAST ONE to get wiped out when Doug purged the old posts?

The other Supergirl was a Superwoman. I think her name was Linda and shes Power girl now.

Power Girl's name is Karen Starr, and she hasn't connected to Supergirl since pre-Crisis.

There was, however, a Superwoman pre-crisis, although she wasn't around for long. It was a teacher from the future who came back in time to study the mysterious Superwoman who appeared in the 1980s, only to wind up becoming Superwoman herself.

Ah -- Linda Danvers was never Power Girl. She was the pre-Crisis Supergirl.

For me, it's the post-crisis Supergirl. And the one who's been there for the longest time. ;)

Hmm... Actually, she was just "Matrix" for a long time prior to merging with Linda Danvers. I'd have to check to see if it was actually longer, though.

She was Matrix from 1987 to 1996: 10 years
Linda Danvers from 1996 to 2004 (or current, if you want): 9 years
Okay, Matrix was around one year longer, but Linda had her own book for nine years. That has to count for something. :)
Actually, they are the same Supergirl - only that Matrix changed drastically. She later merged with Twilight and Linda Danvers became Supergirl

I thought Supergirl was cancelled in 2003... :checks records:
And it's not current. I loved the series, but it's over, Linda is gone to parts unknown and Kara Zor-El is Supergirl now. Which even you've gotta admit is better than Cir-El.

What did happen to Cir El? Back off to the limbo of crappy ideas?

Could be 2003. I'm not exactly sure. I said current, because Linda is still out there in comic-book limbo. She isn't gone completly. I guess we'll see her in Jeph Loeb's Supergirl title. He hinted at that (or I interprete it as a hint).
Cir-El was crap. But the new Kara hasn't proven anything right now. I see the potential, but it's still untapped.

She, um... she's only been in about 5 issues. Give her time.

5 issues of the "Many Happy Returns" storyline made the real Kara a round and likeable character. In even less than 5 issues!
Face it, an introduction of a new Supergirl should make the character at least a little more than just interesting. Loeb failed in this regard.

Loeb's storyline was fantastic. It wasn't about "introducing Kara," it was about showing what sort of effect suddenly having family would have on Superman. Remember, the title is Superman/Batman, not "Here's the new Supergirl."

Was disappointed nontheless. Bad storyline, too.
Anyway, I give the new book at least a chance. There are many pitfalls you can fall into when you're writing a title that features a "female Superman". Let's hope Loeb respects the history and writes good stories with likeable characters.

Hmm... unless Linda used "Superwoman" in that alternate reality during the Many Happy Returns storyline. Which I admit is possible, it's been a while since I read it.

She didn't. Although she grew up a bit there.
