I gave hima shot during the Suib-Diego storyline. It was good, but didn't have the funds to keep up with it. After reading JLA: Classified #3 I see how bad-*** Aquaman can be and I love the concept of the character, but is his solo-book good? Or just mediocre?

I'm going to guess no is the answer.

I read it pretty much up through the Sub-Diego storyline and then dropped it, since it's been going too traditionally superhero for my tastes. It's not that the stuff preceding it was all that great, but it did have it's own je ne sais quoi.

I'd read it if I didn't hope they dropped an asteroid on Aquaman and his entire family and every other Atlantean so there could be no other Aquaman.

I am not a fan of the character, but I gave it a shot during Pfieffer's Sub'Diego run, and he did a fantastic job. Been reading the book ever since.
But Pfieffer just left, and let's just say his replacement is a huge let down. Tried the first two issues under the new guard, and that was enough for me. Dropped it.
So I wouldn't worry too much about missing it :).

among other factors/fears, one thing that will sometimes lead me to pass on something is the chances of a series lasting awhile. I've gotten so used to trying new series only to have them cancelled out from under me that I tend to wind up waiting a few months, and then it drops off my radar for awhile, and eventually comes back into attention...but THEN there's been enough that I feel like I don't want to jump in in the middle, and let it continue to go...
Of course, as I've offered on other books...you want something cancelled, I could probably pick up an issue or two.... :D
Anyway, haven't checked this version of the character out, and been seeing so many mixed reviews (some positive, some negative, a few between) that I've just kinda been watching from the outside.
