Gotham Knights

Detective Comics

Batman:Legends Of The Dark Knight

Gotham Central

JLA

IMO, I like seeing him in JLA the most. He has the most appearances per month of any comic character, the man STAYS busy. However if he could only appear in one book (outside of his MAIN TITLE) which would you have him be a part of.

I actually consider Detective Comics his main title, but I digress...

Hrmm...Gotham Central. The book could be written without him ever really appearing, but I couldn't stand handicapping Rucka & Co. on what they can do with the title.

He very rarely appears in Gotham Central to begin with.

If we're narrowing him down to his one self-titled book and any other, I'd say JLA. I like seeing him with the team and I'd hate to lose that.

If only one title a month then gotta go with JLA. However, Batman is a close second. I oft prefer him interacting with the DCU not as a member of the JLA, but them coming into conflict through his crusade in Gotham.

I think he only really belongs to Detective Comics

Really it should just be batman and detective comics.

Gotham central isn't really a batman book at all, and can still be kept around without him appearing in it very much. But gotham nights and legends imo need to be cancelled, its just batman/bat-family overload with those. Any good stories from those 2 titles could just be put into nightwing or birds of prey anyway.

I think batman is an essential part of the justice league, but since I could only choose one title other than batman and i chose detective comics, then I guess he's leaving the jla. He can't be easily replaced, but it wouldn't be impossible either. And with batman obviously beginning to question the league(outsiders 21) and remember his mind wipe, it would be pretty easy for him to leave to league right now.

I would say BATMAN, for his solo adventures, & keep the JLA.

It's fun to see how stark the contrast is between Bruce & the rest of the "kids."

I consider Batman the major comic and Detective Comics a very close second.

With All-Stars on the horizon, LODK should be cancelled. What's the point?

Gotham Knights should be folded into Detective Comics and that title returned to its anthology roots, with a mix of stories by known and upcoming creators featuring other members of the Bat-family and their respective rogue galleries, with an occasional cameo by Batman.

Gotham Central works just fine w/o Batman appearing in every single issue, making his occasional cameos much more effective.

Though I couldn't care less about the JLA, his membership there is almost mandatory, though that's another title where the occasional cameo would be more effective than a regular role.

And, even though it wasn't on the list, Batman/Superman should either be cancelled - won't happen, of course - or turned into a non-continuity All-Stars-type title.

Further, assuming he's going to return to Blüdhaven, Nightwing and Robin's comics should be merged together, while Batgirl keeps her own title as long as Gabrych continues to develop her character the way he's been doing.

That's my $.02!

PS: And get Winnick off of the main Batbook. If bringing back Jason Todd's the best idea he could come up with, he's obviously not the writer for the job. I'd rather see Rucka take it over or, god forbid, a fresh new voice. I'd love to see Lawrence Block tackle the Dark Knight!

It's probably common knowledge to most but just in case some poor sod hasn't read it yet.

I love Detective Comics right now. Lapham's doing great with "City of Crime". I think, glecharles, that making the longest running Bat-comic into an anthology comic without Batman is illogical. 'Tec currently has backup stories and "The Barker", most recently, didn't feature Batman.

It wouldn't be the first time in its long run that it was an anthology title, though the current format of a main story and a backup could work just as well, as long as both of them didn't feature Batman. Ideally, they would go with an expanded format, say 48-pages @ $3.50, and really give creators room to do something different from the usual. Actually give people a reason to buy it, other than nostalgia and/or completism. Is that a word?

I think it would be fine if there were just Batman and Detective Comics, with occasional appearances in JLA and Gotham Central. He only shows up in Gotham Central when necessary, and it seems to be a tasteful amount of Batman appearances, which is just fine, and seeing his interactions with the JLA is interesting as well. I doubt that the other titles are really that necessary. Robin, Nightwing and Batgirl are their own books now, sometimes with Batman content, but not requiring it, which is great.

glecharles, there was "The Batman Chronicles" a few (well, 1995-2001) years ago -- three stories an issue, a little higher price, sort of what you're talking about. For the most part, though, the writers were all well-known, Batman-vets. You're pushing more for unknowns or lesser-knowns it seems, which, I agree, would be neat.

glecharles, there was "The Batman Chronicles"...
Damn! Something else for me to look for on eBay!! Thanks for the link. Wasn't familiar with that series at all. Guess the 90s weren't a total wasteland and I did miss a few things after all!

No matter how talked about it is, there are always people who don't know yet. The general rule of thumb I use is that it's a spoiler until the next issue comes out. ;)

Batman obviously. Honestly I don't think he and Sups should be hanging around at all, they have two completely different forms of justice, and honestly, Superman is probably the stupidest character ever created, EVER! The whole reason I read Batman (and other Gothem Knights titles) is the fact that there aren no meta humans running around (except for the occasional bad-guy running around Gotham) and yet Bat's and his crew are still kicking thier ***.

They both believe in handing the villains over to the relevant authorities and in rehabilitative punishment. Not too different.

Superman is definitely the stupidest character ever. That must be why he has inspired generations, become and international icon and has been used to tell thousands of stories, and will be for years to come.

Spoken like somebody who hasn't read a Superman comic (with the possible exception of last year's Action run) in decades...

Yeah. You're making everyone else who's only read Austen's Action run since Death of Superman look bad, man...

I only bought it to keep him at DC. The art was pretty good though, and I can't pass up an Art Adams cover.

Wow. Back to topic, the logical answer would be Batman.

To each his own. But anyway, I'm gonna cheat and say all of them. They all serve their own purpose. Batman is core Batman stories. Detective is exactly as it sounds, detective stories. Gotham Knights has become a villian driven book, which I absolutely love. I like the idea of getting into a villians head a little more. Legends of the Dark knight is kind of a mix of all, I think. JLA is how he reacts with his fellow heros. And Superman/Batman is well, stories of the worlds finest. Batman is my fav, so I really dont mind seeing him 100 times a month. Count in Catwoman, Nightwing, Birds of Prey, Robin and Batgirl where he can show up, and his random appearances in GA, Flash, TT, Outsiders etc. etc., and I'm a happy Bat fan!

I voted for JLA, but I also could have voted for Detective Comics (as long as Detective Comics becomes again, what it was when Chuck Dixon was writing it, I miss those days of the Batman family solving things and helping each other).

Detective Comics, though if I had two votes I put in for JLA too. Batman close third.

As for you, necros, that's fine if you don't like a character. But don't say that a cultural icon is "the stupidest comic book character ever", that's an insult to fans of the character. Just say you don't like him. I honestly don't have a problem that people don't like Superman, but jeez almighty just say you don't care too much for him and move on. I don't care for a lot of heroes, but I don't insult people for liking them.

This is funny because when I was like eight years old I loved the Superman movies, the Superboy tv series, which was a little different than Superman, he was still confused and just getting a feel of his powers. And then something happened when I started reading Superman comic books in the 1990, and 1991, I lost all my interest in Superman, why? Hmm don't know, used to think that since he was invincible, then there wouldn't be a point to read a story with him on it, how wrong was I!!! Fortunately he died, (yeah I know that sounds sadistic), and that caught up my interest: how could Superman be beaten? So, I read his death and the reign of Supermen, and I started to change my mind on the character's take, and since then I have come a long way, he is not my favorite hero, but he is in my top 10 now. I like his stories a lot more and have gotten to understand him, his actions and why he is so interesting.

Now, back on topic, I think some people did not read carefully TNC original post :), because he is saying that Batman will keep his own title (Batman) and appear in another one (the one you are supposed to choose)
:p I am not trying to be mean or anything, just that I want to hear arguments on what kind of Batman would you like to see outside of his "main" title.

You and your attention to detail, Gabriel. I stand by my initial vote, Detective comics....JLA close second.

Gabriel Sosa

Supes, I like your vote, is the mirror image of my own :)
It's not attention to detail is "The OC" d (Obsessive compulssive disorder) :D
And I just had to say it because there were like four posts that said: I would have to choose Batman, or something like that.

I'd say that if I had to choose one, I'd choose him to live out his life in Detective Comics. That's where he started. I'd say that he could live there or just in his self named title.

I think I voted JLA awhile back but can I change it to Cosmo?
