With the recent poll and the majority of people right now voting for Kyle Rayner as the best Green Lantern, is DC making a mistake bringing Hal Jordan back in the newest Green Lantern series?

That's not really an easy question to answer.
Do I feel that Kyle Rayner has earned his place as Green Lantern? Yes.
Do I think that DC was caving in to the whinings of a vocal minority of fans when they decided to bring back Hal? Yes.
But do I think that the story in which they're bringing Hal back is working, both cricitally, commercially and artistically? Absolutely.
If they're going to bring Hal back, this is the best way they could have possibly done it, and I find it harder and harder to complain.

One of the big things that people were worried about before Rebirth was what would happen to Kyle, and if he would be demeaned in any way. That seemed to be one of the primary concerns, that they would somehow bring back Hal at the expense of Kyle. The way that they've managed to bring back Hal has not in any way demeaned Kyle's role as GL, and the most recent issue was very supportive of Kyle and what he represents in the history of GLs.

More than that, Kyle now rather represents the FUTURE of the GLs. Newsarama is reporting that Dave Gibbons is going to do a mini later this year, Green Lantern Corps: Recharge, that is largely going to be about the rebuilding of the Corps and focusing on the Lanterns based on Oa, which at that point will apparently be Kyle, Guy, Kilowog and Salaak.

My one worry is in the Newsarama preview they speak about Kyle not being a true GL. Ok, the Kyle that was chosen so many years ago wasn't proper GL material but he DEFINATELY is now. All depends how it's portrayed, just have to wait and see.

There was one exchange in Rebirth that truly made me happy about the whole thing. Sinestro: "And then I'll finish with Kyle Rayner. I'll kill the alley rat."
Hal: "Kyle held the torch when no one else did. When no one else COULD."
Sinestro: "Rayner is a fool. I will slice the creature's chest open and rip out his useless heart."
Hal: "No. You will respect him."
That one little exchange between the two made it a lot easier to swallow. I still like Kyle more, but that alone made it better.

Total agreement with you there, Goku. Johns knew that Kyle fans NEEDED that moment.

Just one more reason why Johns is THE man right now and I'm happy he's writing for the company that puts out great books monthly.

I Don't know if I have to go back and read all my Rebirth issues again but I need a little clarification from someone. I'm sitting around at work bored out of my mind so I started reading The Final Night. In this Kyle Rayner & Hal seem to know eachother...yet, in the latest issue of Rebirth it was as if they were introduced to eachother for the first time. Now I know Hal was possessed by Parralax but in The Final Night when he's saying goodbye to everybody and he decides what he is going to do it seems like Hal so if it is Parralax still that would take alot of the emotion out of this ending. Since I can't wait until I get home tonight to get to my Rebirth and have to read all the issues again...can someone give me a hand?
Oh, and Klwiggs...it's a hit!!! :smirk:
