I have always thought that as a result of genetic warfare that Kryptonians were unable to leave the planet kyrpton without dieing. I thought Jor-El father made genetic modifications to Clark to rid him of that defect. Is this true or am I off my rocker?

That was true, yes, but DC has been slowly shifting away from the Byrne version of Krypton to the Birthright version (which is kind of a mixture of various different ones), so I don't think that's necessarily canon anymore.

Still is or Kryptonite wouldn't hurt him. :)

What do you mean there, Goku? The Kryptonite doesn't really have anything to do with it. Jor-El (in the Byrne version) removed a defect from Kal-El that all Kryptonians had that made them die if they left the planet. Unfortunately, that same defect doomed them to extinction when the ground began turning into Kryptonite and killing them all.
