I guess by now you've read the new GL series... and if you haven't stop reading this right now and go pick it up! What's wrong with you?
Seriously, I just had some thoughts on this issue.
First, that Geoff Johns is tweaking Hal's origin ever so slightly from what we saw in Emerald Dawn.
Examples,He omitted the drunk driving thing, he changed how Hal found Abin Sur, he changed Hal's meeting with Sinestro... (Hal was in prison when he first met Sinestro, at least according to Emerald Dawn.), etc.
Also, I think the government found themselves a Manhunter. Also, that thing following them must be Manhunter v. 2.0

Yeah, the origin was tweaked, but not drastically. What makes Hal a Green Lantern remains intact.
I think you're right about the Manhunter, though. The eye in the back of the truck was robotic, and it was humming "No man escapes..." which is the first half of their twisted mantra: "No man escapes the Manhunters!"

I really liked the book. I still wish it was Kyle as Earth's GL though.

A legion of fans who spent a decade whining about him not being Green Lantern.

Well, Kyle has those same kind of fans who begged DC not to kill him in Rebirth.
New issue's out, and it wasn't the best, but I still liked it. One thing wrong, in my opinion, was I liked the new humanoid Manhunter, but then his skin was melted off and it looked just like the old design. They should have stayed with the new one.

Ugh. I did NOT like this issue. How many times do we have to hear that Hal Jordan is fearless? I got it during Rebirth. I got in the first issue. Enough already. And it seems to me that Jordan is really an arrogant jerk. I mean, he knocked out his commanding officer because he reprimanded him for almost getting someone else killed. So he brought it in "on a dime". Does fearlessness correlate to recklessness now? I'm going to stick with this title a little while longer cuz I know Johns doesn't disappoint, but I'm not sure if maybe Dave Gibbons's GL Corps title is the one I should buy.

Well Green Lantern as a series is all about being fearless... so if you hate that part this really isn't the book for you. :P

No, Kyle had fans who asked that he not be killed.
Kyle did NOT have fans who spent a decade screaming like spoiled children, boycotted DC comics, formed organizations like H.E.A.T. and took out full-page ads in Wizard magazine.

I know, I didn't say they were the same thing... just that Kyle does have fans like that.

I didn't really like it. I disagree that green lantern is about being fearless. Come on, all of them have been scared and ran away. HAL JORDAN QUIT like 3 times, how is that being fearless. I liked rebirth because it was a good story that tweaked paralax's origin, but really showed what kyle was made of. But this book is just tweaking hal jordan way too much. I always found him to be a bit cocky and annoying, but he's become a self rightous pain in the *** whos got an ego the size of oa. Maybe after a couple of real villans kick his butt a couple of times he'll be humbled and i'll come back to this book. But until then i'm just gonna hold of on green lantern till the recharge mini-series.

I enjoyed Rebirth, am looking forward to GLC Recharged,
but this series just isn't doing it for me, it's at the bottom of my to-read list, and once i do, in days time, i reread every thing i buy, and it's also at the bottom, next issue is the end of the first arc, we'll see if it's a deal breaker or maker.
I also prefer Kyle
but i think the heat from HEAT (no pun intended) had died down a little in the recent years? am i right on this? feel free to correct me
it hardly fells like a reason to bring back hal now

I'm not that impressed by the artwork thus far. The colours seem too muted, the backgrounds pretty generic, and even the character designs not as strong as I would normally expect of Pacheco. I'm looking forward to Van Sciver's upcoming arc though, his art on GL in GL: Rebirth was utterly fantastic, and whoever did the colours on his work there did a magnificent job of capturing the dark and light of GL's world.

I enjoyed Rebirth, but Hal Jordan should still be dead. It was a good story but all it did was negate ten years of redemption in favour of a quick sales boost that will taper off again once everyone remembers just what a boring and limited character Hal is.

not to mention i read this book like docdoom. the first issue i bought, i read like right off the bat. but then the second issue, i had a hard time getting to it, even after i reread almost all of my books.

To be honest, it's been sitting on my desk for a week staring at me, and I haven't really managed to read the entire thing yet. And it's not so much the story which bothers me, it's the art. I can't get myself into the book, it's just not bright enough, the colours not rich enough. The art is disappointing me, and keeping me from really getting into this book. It's too sparse looking.

I dissagree with most of you cats. I only started reading GL with the Rebirth mini so the character is still new to me. I am really enjoying the ride so far. That being said... Picked up issue two and have a small question, when the Aussie pilot chick was feeling up GL, she commented on the green and black of his uniform being hot and cold respectively. GL... sorry... Hal went on to say his uniform isn't fabric at all. It wasn't until then that I noticed the morphing his clothes do to make the GL uniform... What's the story here?
Blake Petit

His uniform is constructed by his ring, like everything he "makes." It's not fabric, it's energy. The "green=hot, black=cold" thing is new, though.

Yeah but I thought his ring could onlyt make green things? It can make black too? Should I even care? :)

They can make whatever they want so long as they have the willpower for it... Don't they have the yellow weakness again now? but it can also be overcome with willpower... I think Kyle is a better Green Lantern, and he definately is more deserving of the title...
