why does batman not practice magic I mean he knows ppl who use magic why not train himself in the mystical arts, he would be alot more tough to defeat with magic skills.

Simple. He doesn't believe in it. To be a magician you need a modicum of faith and Bruce doesn't have an bit of it.

Just as he doesn't believe in Greek Gods, even though Diana is part of that wrealm. All he believes in is Justice.

I just don't think he trusts magic enough to place his life in its hand. Batman's own mind is the only thing he trust but magic by it very nature can not be completely understood so he can't trust it.

I think giving Batman actual super powers, via magic, cybernetics, super soldier serum, rediation exposure, latent mutant genes or any other means would just kill the essence of the character.

Besides, Bruce strives to be the best at every single damn thing he does. You give him even a little magic and within a year the writers will change him into the Sorcerer Supreme of the DCU.

Well we had this discussion in the Rec Room, but anyway, Bruce's disbelief in magic is like people's disbelief in other religions, sure a Christian can stand side by side with a Muslim, but neither are going to believe what the other is saying. Bruce can stand side by side with magic and it can even work to his advantage, but he isn't going to believe in it enough to use it for himself.

I don't think that is true. Bruce doesn't strive to be the best at everything he does. There are many things that Bruce just refuses or is incapable of doing. He sucks with interpersonal relationships, he has major trust issues, he has a huge guilt complex, and he doesn't accept things that are out of his control.

These maybe personlity flaws but they are also things Bruce could work on to make himself a better and more effective person. To me his not using magic is no different then his never asking Superman for help. Not just Superman, he has problems asking any of his superfriends for help. A lot of his problems could be handled much easier if he would just ask for help. I don't think it is a matter of him being to proud or racist to ask for help. This is the same man who pretty let Oracle do all his detective for for some 5 odd years. I really think he is utterly incapable of trusting anything or anyone he doesn't fully control(or at least think he fully controls). And at the end of the day the 1 number one rule of magic is you can't control it or trust it.

I think he doesnt use magic, simply because he doesnt trust it, too many variables and unknowns. And how many times have we seen a wizard cast a spell, and it totally backfires and summons a demon that wants to eat your head? Besides one of the main things in batmans crusade is that he does it without any powers.

He was actually using magic in Absolute Power in Superman/Batman though...

Yea but he was a bad guy in that series and had beaten Zatanna to death to get her secrets.

Didn't young Bruce Wayne train with Zatarra, or am I thinking something out of continuity?

I know he did in the Batman animated series, but not sure in the comics. But in the cartoon, he studied escape tricks, not magic.

Hrmm, that might be what I'm thinking -- the escape tricks part of it anyway, because I'm sure I read that in some comic...

Thanks, though. :)

Batman doesn't trust anyone, save Alfred, completely. He doesn't trust magic, especially after what Zatanna did to him.
