What If......

I noticed Marvel used to have What If comics so i was wondering to do the same with DC (yea, I know elseworlds but still...)

But I want to make it like a game, here's how it goes

a poster asks a what if question, a poster (or several other posters) give some answers to the what if question (ex - what if joker never paralyzed Barbara? P1 - there would be no oracle | P2 - there probably wouldn't be any birds of prey)

- try to make your answers different from everyone elses (or somewhat different)

- After a while when it seems as if everyone is done answering the recent what if question feel free to start a new one and continue the process.

I'll Begin: What If Bruce Wayne's Parents never got shot?

They just showed something like that in Superman/Batman... yeah there was no Batman, Bruce grew up happy and rich.

Bruce grows up, becomes a doctor like his father. I was never happy with the implication that Bruce would have become a thoughtless millionaire playboy if his parents were alive. He created the playboy persona to seperate his personas utterly. It's not the real Bruce Wayne.

IF batmans parents never got shot...

I think Bruce would have gone on to be succesful,as a Doctor, Sceintist or something like that...But one night He gets killed in a robbery attempt, and his father is so overwhelemed with grief that he becomes the Batman, although one not as skilled or one that is invited into the JLA. He would be a much more violent and harsher type vigilante, using his medical skills to cripple his foes, and killing when he feels it needs to be done.

Hmmm. Things would be basically the same as they were pre-Coast City, then.

What If Doomsday never managed to get to Earth?

No death of Superman, meaning no Superboy, probably no Steel and Cyborg superman.

You guys are looking at this from the perspecive of things not happening, like Batman not becoming Batman, Hal not becoming Parallax, and Doomsday not killing Superman.

Some of the better What If's in Marvel revolve around what happens when things not only happen, but are never stopped, and allowed to continue to their logical (at least as logical as hypothetical questions like those will allow) ends. Also, a number of them are simply placing other people into other heroes/teams' situations.

Here are a few I'd like to see:

What If: Mongul and Cyborg destroyed Gotham City?
What If: Ares led the Amazons?
What If: Apokolips won?
What If: Batman was a killer?
What If: The Martian Manhunter really hunted men?

And, IMO, a better take on the Doomsday question...

What If: Superman hadn't killed Doomsday?

What If: Ares led the Amazons? Then they would become an evil society of war-like men haters. Hmmm, okay, you've got me there...
What If: Apokolips won? Earth would become another Armagetto, overrun by Parademons and Dog Soldiers. Not sure how they would get out of that one...
What If: Batman was a killer? Dunno.
What If: The Martian Manhunter really hunted men? He would be seen as a hostile alien, defeated and taken into government custody, and either used as a brainwashed agent or simply autopsied.



And, IMO, a better take on the Doomsday question...

What If: Superman hadn't killed Doomsday? If Superman hadn't killed Doomsday, but Superman did still die, then nobody would be left to stop his rampage, and Doomsday would rule the earth under an iron yet mindless, rampaging fist.

Oh, come on. What If's can't end like that. Even if everyone dies, there has to be a resolution. Something would have to stop Doomsday.

Also, how would J'onn be defeated and detained if he hadn't joined the JLA and made himself so public? No one would know who he was, what he could do, or how to find him, at least not for a long, long time. He could hunt down people through stealth (Shape-shifting, invisibility, intangibility, telepathy) alone for years without being detected.

That one and the Gotham story are the ones I'd really like to see explored. I'd like to see how Batman, without a ring or help from the JLA, goes about a) getting his revenge on Mongul and Cyborg, and b) rebuilding/restoring Gotham.

dooms day didnt take on wonder woman hal and flash not sure about manhunter maybe they would have been able to take him down together.
