This is an article over at Newsarama about the future of the Wildstorm Universe and I am stoked. My only trepidation is that they will promise these great artists and then give us crappy fill in guys every now an then (see my rant under UNACCEPTABLE!!). I love the WSU and would love to see it get a real kick-start. Plus, Wetworks was one of the few books I loved when I was younger, and with Whilce Portacio back on the title, that is getting me excited.

I'm not sure I like that statement about returning the universe to its superhero roots so much, but damn is that some impressive talent they've lined up. Three or four of those books have already piqued my interest just based on the creative teams.

I just hope they don't tinker with Majestic -- it's the first Wildstorm Universe book I ever read on a regular basis, and it still excites me more than anything announced here. Simone on Gen13 should be interesting, though.

I can't wait to try out Wildcats. Heck, I might even give the Authority a try since Morrison is writing that as well.

Have to agree with Majestic in some ways. Love the character, just really want Neal Googe to be the artist not any more fill-ins. However, I could be happy with him on the new WIldCATs run.

Majestic wasn't mentioned at ALL in that interview. Makes me wonder if they are canning the book? It sounds like they are scratching everything and starting fresh..
I will be one miffed Majestic reader if that happens...
As to fill-in artists... come on guys. It is ok for another artist to to do an issue every now and again :). I would rather have the books on time than wait 6 months for the regular artist to get caught up...

I reference you to my thread UNACCEPTABLE!! where I just added commentary (these are just my opinions)

I doubt they cancel Majestic seeing how he is one and only book still around that ties into Wildstorm and is ongoing. The team who is doing Majestic will probably stay on or they will announce a new team at the right time, like whenever Stormwatch gets announced.

I agree. The idea of WILDCATS especially going back to its superhero roots after the brilliant evolution at the hands of Casey really worries me. On the other hand, there is only one writer in the universe who could pull it off -- and that writer is Morrison.

They might not have said anything about Majestic cause his book is already doing well, and it is a Superhero book. So it doesnt exactly fit in with the "revamp" of the other books. Maybe?

WILDCATS and GEN 13 are both superhero books.

Yes, but neither of them are currently being published in ongoing series. Majestic IS.

How exactly are the books going to be super-hero books when the Authority is still barking up orders even if they are not in the White House anymore. In order for the books to be back to their super-hero roots there need to be valid reasons for such a thing to happen and happen in such a fashion that the Authority just does not open a door and send the bad guys to the sun letting everyone else like Gen 13, Wildcats, Stormwatch, Majestic, and so on to get their feet wet. I hope the rumors about Wildcats Vs. the Authority to the death is true since it is pretty apparent they are not invincible if the events from the first Majestic TPB of his new series is any indication and need to be taken down a notch. Everyone at god like powers, why would anyone else need to save the day with them around?

They kind of implied they were starting over - meaning old continuity is out the window...
At least, that is how I read it.

I got that impression as well, and Captain Atom: Armageddon seems to be playing a role in that.

I didn't get that at all -- just because the books are "returning to their roots" doesn't mean they're wiping out continuity.

I still want to know what exactly do they mean by "super hero roots"? Are we going to go back to the old 90's with big men and their guns and women in impossible poses with sexy bodies that could cut diamonds go out and save the universe on a daily basis? I cannot seem them rebooting continuity on anything unless they want to fix up oddities that from Image Wildstorm being bought by DC. Like how do they explain that Backlash fought Savage Dragon? Right now the Authority is post-Revolution so they cannot be changing continuity in some major way.

Heck they can really do whatever they want. It might be confusing, it may toss continuity to the wind, it may tick some people off, but they can do it. I am thinking something big occurs, messes with time or something (similar to crisis on infinite earths) and we get a fresh start. All I know is that I LOVE super-hero comics, so I LOVE this news.

On the Wildstorm Wondercon panel Morrison and Lee talked about their upcomign WildCATs project. It will be bi-monthly, alternating months with All Star Batman. Morrison plans to make it more super-heroish, but he clarified that by saying it will be taking the art of Image comics and combining it with Vertigo writing. So super-hero for adult. Basically it is an attempt to merge the art-driven comics of the Image launch back in the 90's with the writer driven stories of today. Which I personally think is a great idea, if they really pull it off. I loved Image art, but the stories usually fell flat.

So basically, I do not have to worry about Midnighter knocking someone out instead of him just ripping their head off? I am not sure how I feel about WildCATS at the moment. I have been keeping up with Wondercon and while it sounds fantastic, the series probably taking place 5 years into the future and having a Spartan robot in every home has me excited and worried.

I am excited, but worried about the whole deal. Sounds great to me, but can they pull it off and stay on schedule? I love the idea of a more super-hero aspect of it, as I have said my favorite stuff is super-hero books. Plus the idea of Image comics with a story is Christmas come early. I am not worried about the Authority, because I do not read it anyway, do not like the concept. Might try it if Morrison is on though.

Apparently, Morrison said that he's going to be building on the stuff set up by Casey. That makes me very happy.

URGE TO KILL, RISING. Sigh... just when I discovered the series from the first TPB. I guess I will just finish the series with the trades then.

It does, just it takes place in the background of things. We probably will not know how Planetary itself will situate itself in the new Wildstorm after everything is said and done because the series is not over with.

ive been reading wild storm back issues. Stormwatch pre ellis tends to be barely readable to me pretty boring stuff. While some of the other books were pretty interesting the early gen 13 issues were good with the comedy and super heroics. Wildcats had its moments when robinson was writing. Backlash seemed pretty standard image superhero fare. I dont think backlash will be seen in the new wildstorm universe other then in Team 7 stuff

I read somewhere (i believe newsarama) that majestic is being cancelled because there bringing him to the regular DC universe. Captain Atom will be staying in the wildstorm universe.
