Ok, Dick is now engaged to Babs. I know he was once engaged to Starfire. Anyone else on the great list? I know he had a fling with Huntress.

He had a wierd sex-buddy relationship with Tarantula II. I'm not sure where that went. I stopped reading NW around that time.

On a side note, in what issue did Dick propose to Babs? I haven't got my monthly shipment in, and I'd like to pick that issue up.

I'm happy for them. Well, as happy as I can be for comic-book characters.

Anyway, there are usually two stances when it comes to Dick and Babs relationship.

Number one: They should be together. They were written for each other.

Number two: Nightwing should follow the same path Batman follows and never get married.

I am in the first camp. Which one are you?

I like Dick with Babs... his solo-series was a great take on their relationship, and the subtle and not so subtle nuances of it.

However, I'm also a huge fan of the Nightwing/Starfire romance... Teen Titans wouldn't have been the same without them and the romance.

I am most familiar with the Dick/Kory romance, but I guess Dick/Babs is in keeping with the whole Bat-family thing.

Count me on the first camp, and actually Batman should find someone too IMO.

Cannot stand that Babs and Dick are engaged, which probably will not last long. Dick and Kory are meant to be together. I view Dick and Babs like I view Clark and Lana on Smallville. What bothers me about this situation even more is that we get all these instances where they do end up together, I.E. Kingdom Come. Then there was the time before he went undercover and boned Starfire just for the casual sex of it. Babs does not give him the right attention, this is still an infatuation from the little kid who saw a more mature women but never grew out of it.

All I know is that on Smallville Clark has to be an idiot to pick Lois over Lana, Lana is quite possibly the most gorgeous woman on the planet, the hell with doing the story right.
On a more serious note, I think Dick and Bruce have a similar problem, but approach it differently. Bruce puches people away, Dick needs companionship, both to deal with their demons. In a month we will know what happens in OYL. I am still wondering if Dick has been engaged on more than one occasion.

SECRETS AND LIES!

I despise Lana on Smallville...took a good country girl and turned her into O.C. fodder. Blech.

Anyway, I'm in the camp that sees Dick and Babs, though I am disappointed for Kory because I always liked that relationship. Still, I think Barbara's good for him.

Thing is, Lois is the right woman for Clark, and personally I think that Selina needs to get with Bruce. I always thought they had the best dynamic.

But she is SO HOT! Ok, now that I have demeaned myself with that. I think BRuce and anydoby is a terrible idea. Bruce is the mask. He is Batman, not Bruce Wayne. A real romantic involvement would tarnish the character. I like the idea of him as a single grouchy old man.

But Selina loves Batman anyway, and they could be a crimefighting love duo! I don't know, I hate seeing my favorite characters miserable, and the guy needs to learn to open up a little. I kind of liked the route they almost went in JLA w/ Diana.

Didn't he admit both to Azrael and himself that there was no Batman, there was just Bruce Wayne. And no he deserves better than to be a single grouchy old man.

I was intrigued by the almost Batman/Diana thing. I don't mind Batman being miserable, he is supposed to be a dark character. Maybe not miserable, but definately dark. I still maintian he should be a crotchety old bugger who is a great mentor/pain in the *** for whoever takes over at that time.

I like Dick and Babs together, better than Dick and Kory. And, I'm in the campe that wouldn't mind seeing both Nightwing and Bats with a significant other. Batman works as the dark broody man, for sure, but with somewhere between 3-6 or 7 monthly titles where he makes appearances, he must've been brooding for like 10,000 comics by now. I think, at least for me, one of the problems with the core Bat books the last decade or so is that Batman is stuck in a bit of a rut, one that (maybe) something like a marraige/child could undo. For me, Birds of Prey is better than Tec and Batman month in month out because it's fun. Batman isn't a fun character, but he could at least dabble in it, no?

Batman with a kid? Worst idea ever! The guy would be the world's worst dad. He is devoted heart and soul to hiz work, which does not make for great parenting skills. Sure he did ok with Dick, but he was not around when Dick was in diapers or playing little league. As for marriage, it is the same deal. How can he get married without making a commitment that jeopordizes the commitment he has already made? To diminish his original commitment to Gotham would be to alter the character horribly. The only broad he could possibly be with in my mind is Huntress, simply because she is the closest to his level of obsessiveness.

By being dark doesn't mean he can't have someone he loves or cares for. He's got a good heart after all.

That is true, I am just saying I do not think his life would be a good fit for a lover, unless they became as embroiled with him. The person would have to become part of the crusade. Which could be wicked cool. I am just adamantly opposed to Selina and Batman because she would never be one of his crusaders. If there was a female character who would fight with him, and be as dark and creepy as he then maybe it could work, as long as she keeps up with the pill (pardon my crudeness). A kid would be bad, period. That is because he does have a good heart, but would not be a good dad, so he would not allow that to occur, because he knows he could not devote the needed time and attention to a baby.

What would you do to make Batman develop as a character going forward- or would you keep him as is? I guess, for me, the core Batbooks have started to lose their charm because I feel like I've seen everything before. Would a child or a wife be out of the character we know and love and have seen until now? Yes, but maybe something dramatic like that could take Batman to new directions and adventures. All we have know are crossovers where Batman is backed into a corner, trusts no one else, remembers to trust his friends, wins the day but suffers a loss of someone. That's the plot for NML, Murderer/Fugitive, and War Games in a paragraph. A sustained love life could bring something new to the equation.

It could but I don't want to alter the character to the point where he isn't a dark, paranoid, obsessive for lack of a better word jerk. I think it would be really awesome if he found a female interest who had a crusade like his. Which is why I liked the almost in JLA with him and Diana. That would fit, both are truly dedicated to their cause. Catwoman is a villain, sure her mind was altered, but she and Batman together fully just seems off to me. Bruce and Diana together kickin heads in on the dark streets of Gotham would be so cool. She could go back to the leather jacket look.
