Given that's DC, I'll guess he happened to be named:
"Joe Jocular"

I don't think they ever revealed his name. I know in the 1989 Batman movie his real name was Jack Napier. But, the best you can do to get clues to who he was before he was the joker is read Gotham Knights #54 which gives that his name is Jack and his wife name is Jeannie. So maybe he is Jack Napier.

Heh, that reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer goes on a journey to find out what the J. in his name stands for. Eventually it turns out that it stands for Jay.

I never even thought of that, but wasn't his name in the first movie, Jack Napier? God, I love that movie. It still makes my blood move when he points the gun in the kids face and said, "Tell me Kid, you ever dance with the devil in the pale moon light?" Awesome movie. Jack Nicholsen was the perfect Joker!

He's interacted with both several times. Joker's real name is a mystery, hence the "name unknown" sign on his door at Arkham.

The Joker's real name has never fully been revealed in canon, but both the movie and the Dini/Timm cartoon used "Jack Napier." I wouldn't be surprised, if they ever did reveal his full name in the comics, if they went with that.
I don't think he regularly associates with Two-Face or Ivy, but considering how long those characters have been around, I'm sure you can find a few stories with them together.

A whole lot of interaction between Joker and Two-Face in both The Long Halloween and Dark Victory. If you have not read these you are missing two of the greatest Batman stories of all time.
Ivy is also in these stories, and does play a role.

Actually in the Timm 'toons they said one of his aliases was Jack Napier, he was better known as an unnamed hitman working for the mafia until he fell in the acid vat during an early confrontation w/ Batman. If we all remember from Mask of the Phantasm, he's the dude that killed Andrea Beaumont's father.

Yep, that's what I was thinking of, Joker and Two-Face were in cahoots for most of Dark Victory, and Ivy was around. They don't team up on a normal basis though, mainly because of egos clashing.
Long Halloween Joker threatened Harv in his home, just in case the DA was Holiday..."this town isn't big enough for TWO homicidal maniacs."

Those where the books that came to mind first when I though of those duos, though im sure there are many occations through the years where they have met/teamed up.
And yes, those are some of the best Batman stories ever. (IMO they are MY favorite Batman books, and one of my favorite novel(s) of all time. They were some of the first books that got me into comics, if you havent read them READ THEM!)

The Joker also messed around with Harvey's head in "A Lonely Place of Dying". He communicated with Harvey through an old radio.

Yep, that's absolutely right! I forgot about that one, good on ya newbie. :) Harv thought it was his other personality, Joker tricked him into going back into crime.

The funny thing is that my classmate and I were just talking about Arnold's lame oneliners from that movie earlier in school today

IMHO Arnold could have played the Mister Freeze from comics or TAM, too bad there was Joel Schumacher.

Ugh -- Arnold's Mr. Freeze was some of the worst casting EVER. The man just can't play a mad scientist... they shoulda gone with Patrick Stewart.

I was merely responding to a video that I believe Magneto X posted about Arnold's mister freeze, and subsequent others responded to as well. If you want my opinion of the Joker, I posted it on the first page.

Which as you notice is an anagram of Napier....
No, we don't know his name. Any ideas have come with speculation or from the Joker himself, which is hardly a good source.

It could never happen. To change him enough so that would be acceptable would be to change him too fundamentally for him to be recognizable as the same character.

I think it'd be a lot like if Bizarro tried to do a good deed. He'd screw it up because he wouldn't understand how to be a hero. For example, he could maybe latch on the idea of a saving a life, but I don't think he has the awareness to realize that killing four bystanders to save that life is wrong.

I agree with this. The closest you could get to is like a Rorschach type character mixed with Deadpool, but it wouldn't be the Joker anymore. It'd be Jokeschachpool.

Ok, let me address all the points.
Joker's real name - as other said it's not clear just speculations.
Interactions with Poison Ivy and Two Face - yes
The movies:
Batman - really awesome
Batman Returns - just awesome
Batman Forever - wanted to puke and gouge out my eyes with a rusty spoon.
Batman and Robin - it is the anti-christ
Batman Begins - I consider it the BEST!

Eh?
Sure it wasn't an alias? They've used "Jack" as a "real name" before, but it's never been proven.

"The Joker's real identity is unknown, and there have been different takes on his origin, though each depicts him as having fallen into a vat of chemicals, which bleached his skin white, dyed his hair green and turned his lips bright red, giving him the appearance of a sinister clown."
Looks like the debate is over. HA

Another final question:
How does the Joker get along with Scarecrow, Poison Ivy & The Riddler?
I think the Joker and the Riddler interacting would be very interesting.
