With Batman #651 out the story continues. I felt this was really good but wasn't as good as the last issue. Poison Ivy's return isn't explained but it is alluded that she did just return from the dead which would go with continuity. Also, I think I found a little typo in that when it is going on about the signal it says it hasn't been used in years. This would contradict that it has only been a year since Batman disappeared, because they only very recently stopped treating Batman as a helper and stopped using the signal

I was not as pumped with this as I was Detective Comics, but it was good. The art really appealled to me, but the lack of explanation on IVy seemed a bit off, and for some reason the majority of the book being action, no dialogue, even internal, seemed to make it way to quick of a read. Ah well, it was still a good book and I am very intrigued to see where we go next.

Yeah what they said about the signal kinda bugged me too. I felt sorry for Ivy at the end. I really liked the art in this issue. Especially the parts where it was kind of "split-screen" where they showed what Batman and Robin were doing at the same time.
So at the last page, the villain strung up there(Magpie right?) didn't she die already? I thought that was mentioned in that one issue of Superman/Batman. That scene where Bats goes, "Clark, what the hell are good villains?" or something like that. Guess she's back from the dead too?
I agree with jonsnow that the lack of internal dialogue seemed a little odd. I guess I'm used to reading Bat's thoughts as he analyzes situations.

This just felt like a stopgap issue, and I was exceptionally dissapointed with it.

I really want to like this more than I do, but I feel like the first issue of Robin OYL did more to expand on what the characters have been doing and what kind of emotional and mental state their in.
This felt like a retcon without the flashbacks or time travel really. Like the purpose of Infinity crisis and OYL is to take the clock back to before contagion when batman, robin, and gordon were all buddy buddy solving crimes by supervillains with funny names. Which is really sad and I hope this arc picks up.
But if it doesn't Morrion's gonna come a long and throw batmans status quo out the window anyway and do a lot of great fun new things like he always does. God I can't wait for that. They should have just put him on right now and let him lay the ground work for what he wants to do, especially since he's working on 52 and knows what happanes during the missing year.
Also, about the bat signal, I don't think its a typo, even though batmans only been gone for a year, it wasn't being used before he left since he was on the outs with the police department before war games.

I really liked the fact that Batman and Robin were actually working together again. The phrase is "Batman AND Robin" not "Batman and sometimes Robin whenever they want"

I don't mind having batman and robin in the book on a constant basis. It's when they talk to each other so...emotionless. I know that sounds weird since this series if following a seemingly more open batman, willing to praise tim (which he did and didn't need). But that was something batman has never really done for as long as i've been reading him. So his actions like letting tim have his life, quit, choose his own path showed more respect for him than saying he could be better than nightwing outloud. Tim's proved throughout his history that he's way better than dick was at his age and will probably become better than dick in certain areas as he continues to grow.
Still, I'm liking the story a bit more than the actual dialogue. I'm looking forward to 52 to find out what went down in gotham while the bat squad was gone though.

It is weird to see Batman like this, but I do like that it's not like the characters themselves don't take notice. I mean, Poison Ivy noticed he acted differently, suddenly Alfred can address him as Bruce, and Tim seemed a bit taken aback by Batman's comment, hence the slightly awkward moment afterwards... Things like that make the change more palatable for me, because it's a more organic change if it isn't just accepted by others, but instead recognized as being different...

I will agree with that. People change in life, why shouldn't characters in comics change with the times?

As long as he remains true to the character I am ok with him being more mellow. I liked him as a jerk, but I liked him back when he wasn't a jerk. The only thing I do not want to see is him Be the papa of Catwoman's kidI really like where this is going so far.

I don't mind Batman a little bit more mellow, I just don't want to see him as the type of Batman he was in the 60's.

With my help, and some of my friends...
But I think that wouldn´t be necesary. I wouldn´t call this Batman a "kidfirendly" one but a relaxed one. He is sitll true to charecter but with a heavy weight removed from his shoulder.

Good way of phrasing that.
I'll say it here and now. If they ever bring back the Adam West incarnation Dan Didio and everyone else who runs DC is dead.

I shall help you...
Batman is not the "campy, helping little old ladies across the street, everyting mission has a morale lesson" hero. (that's what Superman is for)
He is the DARK knight.....

OK so Detective Comics #819...
Tally-man? Who the heck is the Tally-man? Has he ever shown up before?
How cool was Bats unloading on Crock? Man, did you see all the times did the text "Krack!" showed up. And I'm still digging this "kinder, gentler" Batman. Still a man with a mission, but being less of an arse about it.

This is great stuff. I do agree That the Tally-man thing confused me. Isn't tally-man part of t song, "come mr. tally-man tally me banana. Daylight come and me wan go home." (ok so maybe I got the words wrong)
