I was chatting with the guy who runs the store I go to, and he said the rumblings he has been getting from DC are that Azrael will be returning in the not so distant future, but not Jean Paul Valley. The mantle of Azrael will return, with new characters under the mask, as a sort of redemtion. Apprently the idea is that the order behind Azrael decides to use the mantle to redeem characters, Jason Todd was apprently specifically mentioned. Now this is all hear say, and a good chance is it is a load, but what would your reactions be to Azrael returning in this manner. Maybe not even Jason as Azrael, but characters seeking to make amends.

I think any idea can work if you have the right writer attached. I was never a huge fan of Azrael's death to begin with. I thought it was a fitting end for the character, I just felt it was kind of a waste. There were still plenty of good stories to tell with him.
That being said, I think I'd be alright with someone else taking the mantle over.

I'm all for returning or new characters showing up in any of my favorite books...just as long as they're handled well and they seem essential to the story. Otherwise it just comes across as fluff.
I kind of hope that if Azrael comes back it's not as another good guy hero. I think Azrael would be cooler as another obstacle that gets in Batman's way. Making a hero's life harder usually leads to good stories. Usually. hehe.

I agree, Batman needs an anti-hero to stir up some trouble (Jason Todd could be good as Azrael)

The idea was not an anti-hero, it was to make a character into a tool of redemption. Jason is an anti-hero, but he does things that cross the line, as Azrael he would bee seeking to atone for those crimes. That was the way it was explained to me. Different people will hold the mantle of Azrael, some may even die during this stint, but the idea is they have to atone for something, and as Azrael they will atone. So, say Cass does something naughty, she could be Azrael.

blast! I think that's kind of stupid. Why wouldn't they just make up for it in their own costumes?

No clue, as I said, just a rumor I heard. Probably full o' crud, but wanted to see the reactions. Personally I like Jason in his current role.

I second that! Jason as the Red Hood, an identity of his "killer", the irony is great.
