What exactly is Wonder Woman's ethos -- in two sentences or less?

Does she have a consistent and solid theme? Is she hopelessly inconsistant and each writer gets to pick and choose? Or is there an obvious and explainable principle she sticks to? Peace or War? America or Themyscira? Ambassador, Soldier, Soldier on Loan, or Free Agent? Seclusion or Involvement in the outside world? If Justice, whose? And what means are sanctioned? Women's strength/equality or a bondage cheesecake?

Lol...i may get shot for this, but wonder woman to me is nothing to me but a weird SM mistress with emphasis on the push bra and ropes....her character really never had any goal IMO, but that doesnt take away from her being a great character to balance out all the testosterone. :D The most character she ever had IMO was during the 70's show...

In that case "balancing out" isn't exactly what she's doing to the testosterone, is it?

I can do it in two letters (oh am I gonna catch hell for this) T & A. I am hoping Heinberg makes her a character I enjoy reading, but for me I never got into the character because it just seemed she was an attempt to balance out Bats and Supes, and only succeeded in being a lot hotter than both.

Please ... fantasies aside ... she'd be ridiculously scary to actually meet.

I'm sticking with my gal Spiral. She's got a sense of humor and likes lovable losers.

Why would u be afraid to meet WW? She's one of those girls that if someone would just have the cojones to ask her she'd probably go out with him, provided he wasnt a total slob, or a supervillain. :king:

Does she have a consistent and solid theme? Is she hopelessly inconsistant and each writer gets to pick and choose?

no, she does not
she was created by a pervert as a bdsm figure and went on to be jsa's secretaty, for goodness sake
lots of "writers" came by, and each thought of something they assumed smart, and the title(s) stunk to high heaven.

then perez came along, re-did diana almost to perfection (more on that later) but he left, and a new "i know it all" guy took over and bleah-ed her again

DC should execute any and all editor that ever worked on the title before and after george for allowing such a thing to happen.

Or is there an obvious and explainable principle she sticks to?

none at all, since every idiot and his brother is allowed to rape george's work

let's take your questions and use them as question to interview diana, the diana i'd write:
Peace or War?
Peace. i'll do no harm to you. i want no one to be in danger, i want everyone to live in peace. you do harm, to me or to others, i'll fight to stop you, and in conflicts people can die, so be warned, i have an axe and i know how to use it. and a bow. and a sword. and a spear. and a lansinarian techegg that i can change into anything i want, as a titanic tank to squash you. and a golden armor with wings (yes, i'm not wearing your flag instead of panties, who's the sick guy that came up with that?). and the sword of ephestus, cuts electrons off atoms

America or Themyscira?
Themyscira, obviously.
america.... america..... america? what's that?
you think you are all so important that someone that shares nothing of your culture is ready to stand for your land?
truly, was i interested in foreing countries (foreign meand outside of themyscira, just to make it clear, mr interviewer) i'd choose greece, land of my gods, or sicily, calabria and campania in souther italy if i want something exotic but still influenced by a culture that resemble mine, even if that was more than 2 millennia ago.

Ambassador, Soldier, Soldier on Loan, or Free Agent?
soldier with a mission, see your next question

Seclusion or Involvement in the outside world?
themyscira is a nation hyppolita wanted involved, albeit marginally, with the rest of the planet.
the ares onslaught proved that patriarch's world needs to be shown and taught new principles and phylosophies. scholars from themyscira will publish books in your world to teach you what we think, and our principles. take them or leave them is your own free choice, we'll just offer them to you.
my part, considering the blessing i received from the gods, is to make sure threats such as the one caused by your power hungry military, albeit inspired by ares, will not cause harm to the planet we, amazons and patriarchs, share.

If Justice, whose? And what means are sanctioned?
themysciran justice, obviously.
any individual stopped by me will be brought to themysciran justice, inspired by the wisdom of athena, and not the whim of mortal men.
i'll always ask the guilty to desist, i want a peaceful solution to disputes.
if met with violence, violence will be the answer. and just so you know, i'm the greatest warrior form the greatest warrior culture on the planet. endowed with gifts from the gods. i know my way in a fight. and i will win.

Women's strength/equality or a bondage cheesecake?
it's not women's strength, women's equality. it's humanity's strength, humanity equality.
we believe in the freedom of the individual, from oppression, any kind of oppression.
we believe in truth, to be told and held as an universal value.
queen hyppolita knew slavery, knew deceit and we don't want anyone else to suffer them again.
as for your not so veiled sexual innuendo, i'm not interested in any of it.
i'm lesbian, as all amazons are, so you can stop staring at my chest and pop your eyes back in your head, please.
now, if you will please excuse me, there are people i have heard of, people that amputate the sexual organs of women out of some religious belief.
i'll take care of them first.

sigh, i'd do anything to write wonder woman (and have adam huges as regular, monthly artist. yes, since i'm dreaming, i can dream that ah can do 80 pages a month:LOL:  22 for me, the other he can work for whoever he wishes.

simple answer to your question:
there have been so many bad writers on the title that, no, wonder woman stands for nothing in particular.
i hope heingberg will do something for her, just as johns did for hawkman.
but then he'll leave, and more crap will pile on diana.
but at least we'll have 12 good issues

I'd have to agree with Sasquatch on everything he wrote. A perfect assessment.

Though I'd have to say Diana does appreciate the freedom of other people and not just her fellow Amazons. The Amazons themselves may not care about the outside world, but she obviously does or she wouldn't spend so much time risking her life for them.

But to be honest the success a hero depends on the writer. A good writer can take the most redundant character and make it spectacular.

Did you like Rucka's run, Sask? It made me a fan again. What about the new guy?

rucka's run was as bad as they come.
modernizing the outfits of the gods? what did he smoke? whatever it is, it should be double-outlawed
long issues of absolutely nothing happening: was he bitten by bendis?:(
diana killed the medusa. about time, how long did it take to get to that point? 1 year?
diana killed lord. about time someone showed ppl how to deal with criminals: you play soccer with their heads
only 2 good points i can remember
ferdinand the minotaur? get me a barf bag.

you know, i just re-read byrne's run. boy, was it horrible. only good thing was the lansinarian techegg (i invented the term, techegg, so it's very very tm, tyvm :zatanna: she sprouts bunny ears!)

in my opinion, you want a good WW, you stick to perez and some of kingdom come (diana and supes making out and having a baby made me puke. thank the allmighty i boughts the 4 prestige books 1st print that did not have that)

and of course my take  :wonderwoman:

there are 2 pics of diana that define her, in my opinion
the one by steve rude
http://www.sequart.com/wonderwoman/wwV2n200pinup.jpg

and the one in kingdom come where she stab the guy in the back with the sword. blade coming out from the chest.

the new guy? :bunny: new? you're not reading young avengers?
ok, stay where you are while i call the holy inquisition

so, allan heinberg is not "new", he's "used", at least, since he's writing marvel's second best book, the afore mentioned ya.
as silly as the premise would have appeared (and it seemed silly to me too) he managed to make the characters likable, real, she spun an incredible "time travel/coming of age" story in the first 6 issues and he's now working on the sequel to the fabled kree-skrull war. add to this that each issue has a cliffhanger that leave you shocked, amazed, enthusiastic and longing, needing more. truly, one of the best writers i've ever read.
more
since he has 2 gay characters in ya, i hope and pray he'll out diana (i mean, amazons lived more than 2000 years in an island populated by just women.... add 2 and 2.....)

(p.s. don't get me started on my take on the legion, it's 4 pages long in word  )

I agree with Sasquatch regarding Kingdom Come. WW was very impressive in that run. Not the kind of person you would want ticked off at you.

One of the more recent pics of her that I like was the cover of Identity Crisis #4. I thought it was well done.

not unique at all
ferdinand, albeit as just fedrinand the bull, was donald duck's partner in an old walt disney cartoon.
so rucka stole intellectual property from disney and anthropormofied (does such a word exist:confused: ?)

now, who do you think ferdinand liked better, donald or diana?
