What if Superman's power loss is purely a mental thing? It's been theorized that his powers are partially psionic in nature. As of the last issue of "Up, Up, and Away" shows, he doesn't feel Superman's needed right now. What if that's why he hasn't gained his powers back? He feels there's no reason to be Superman right now in a world that doesn't need him to survive. The other heroes have stepped up and are pulling the weight he used to have to pull. What do you guys think?

Naa, whatever mental blocks he might have been putting up, I have a hard time believing his own sense of justice or experiencing pain wouldn't have broken them down, if just for an instant. I just can't imagine supermans powers working like that.

I would have to not agree, not based on much of what I have read cause to be honest havent read much superman, but because of what I have read about, and everything the folks here have testified to and shown ample evidence of, his personality and character. If his character is so noble and selfless as people here ;) would have me believe then, I cant believe he would abandon his mission either consciously or subconsciously.
We are obviously going to hear/read about problems that occurred in the missing year. I cant see the character he has been built up to be, whether I agree others assessments or not, taking a break and not showing up to help out.
Honestly if you read my posts I have respect for but am not really a Superman fan, I would be thoroughly disappointed if this were the case.

Interesting theory, it's possible.
However, I doubt he would just stop, unless Lois asked him to just be Clark for a while...which is something she'd never do. Even if he didn't remember HOW to use his powers, those guys should have broken their hands on him, since his bio aura should still work

Possible He does lose his powers by being drained fighting Superboy. He goes without his powers for a few months and gets used to not having them. He sees things running fine without him and doesn't think he's needed. He's starting to see that he is needed afterall and wishes he could get back. My guess is there's gonna be no help coming up in the next couple issues and he's gonna will himself into action again.

Remember
In IC 6, he was being merged with a powerless Lex Luthor..something tells me that will have something to do with it as well as Clark seeming to be smarter and more focused...

i think it's more of an alternate reality type of thing that is left over from IC. cuz he has been drained of power before and recovered later on with just time (definetly less than a year though). what if there is some universal fundamental things in play now that hinders his power absorption in general? that's my angle i guess.

I think it's a solid theory, based on what I read in Superman #651. Not 100 percent sold on it, but still solid.
