The original Freedom Fighters (FF) had a purpose. They were on earth X figthing the Nazis, which had won WW2. On the current earth, what the hell are the new FF combating? Their entire purpose for exisitng has been stripped.

Why the need for new characters? They was absolutely nothing wrong with the originals. Thats one of the things I loved about DC. They use to bring back these golden age heroes. It was a blast from the past. But these new FF, who are they? Why do they exist? Why the need to replace the originals? These noobies are not the FF, the only thing they share with the originals is the name. So in essence, they are a brand new team. Why not just give them a new name. Its incredibily stupid!

Its like Marvel & the "new" invaders. WTF? What are they invading? The originals set in WW2 worked. Set in the current timeline, its silly.

Did you see the artwork for it? I think it is the person who does the covers for Outsiders or did. Either way his Phantom Lady scares me.

And what is up with those green fitsi-cups? They look painted on her hands and serve no real purpose, plus it is tacky. Oh and of course this new Ray has to be a miniority now.

It is called change. There are new and more powerful villians to combat in this day and age, and every supeteam are put together for that very reason, to fight villians, therefore that is probably their purpose for existing. And just because the Freedom Fighters are made up of different characters doesn't mean they can't live up to the name. Here's a thought, how about stop living in the past and accept that some changes will happen and, even though the series hasn't even started, maybe even for the better.

So obviously when Superman died, we should have kept him dead right? Since bringing him back is living in the past. What about when Batman broke his back? I guess we should have gotten a new Batman forever and kept Bruce out of it since that would be living in the past. The Freedom Fighters did not even need to be shaken up, just reintroduced. The Phantom Lady. She looks almost the same (costume wise) to the original. What was the point of killing her off if they were just going to slap someone else in a near identical costume? The Ray being black now signals that the original will probably not last past Infinite Crisis. Oh and he is showboating, fantastic hate him already.

Oh blah blah blah
Get over it.

People die, too many of them are brought back. It's pretty much a necessity of comics for people to die and new people to be introduced. If this didn't happan then everything would be the exact same as it was 60 years ago and there would be no point in reading because every story would be the exact same.

Death is an important factor in life. However, death should not be used as a gimmick. Having a new Freedom Fighters is going to do what now? Make new readers all giddy about them? Killing certain characters and then replacing them just for the sake of them being different is also stupid. The Ray being black now just confirms that something happens to the original now, plus already I dislike the new Ray. He reminds me of Booster Gold and "Let us be in the spotlight" type of mentality. I liked the original Freedom Fighters, but when I see the new Phantom Lady it is an insult to the original that they killed off just to have something with the exact looks (except more Russian looking) take her place. Her costume is near identical.

Anyone can be someone's favorite and telling something to get over it is just rude and illogical. Why would someone get over the death of someone they cared for? I bet there is something or someone in your life right now that if you lost it you would not want to hear someone tell you to "GET OVER IT".

I wonder if you feel the same way about Hawkeye.

I'm glad hawkeyes dead actually. Never particularly fond of the character. The whole archer thing is SO overrated. I was pissed when DC brought back green arrow. 1 because I liked Conner and 2 because there was no need for another archer in comics and 3 because its just another character making death in comics pointless.

First off: Do you guys realize that the Ray may be the same guy? Considering he's wearing a costume that seems to be as bright as possible, it makes sense his skin would look dark by comparison. And the dialogue doesn't seem out of character to me.
But suppose he is a new guy... I never heard of any petitions to give the Freedom Fighters their own series. And last i checked, Earth X no longer exists. So many comic fans only pay attention to a character after there's a shake-up. I never really cared about the old FF & I'm not too interested in the new FF.

p.s.- Superman should have stayed dead.

So I've been thinking about this for the past couple of days and I think i've finally found the answer.
TO TELL A STORY just might be why characters, entire groups of heroes, entire groups of the DC or Marvels populace, and villains get killed.
I've pretty much given up trying to explain why this story needs to be told, but it is and always will be. Sometimes the story ends when the character dies. Sometimes it continues with the climax of the story being when the character returns, and other times its left open ended.

Either way, the story is going to be told. Over and over again. The death plotline is normally a catalyst for change. So if you don't like change, well then your just up a creek.

Obviously he wasn't going to stay dead... I said he SHOULD have. It was a waste of a good story & DC would have this incredible martyr. I love Superman but his death would put the DCU in such an interesting spot.
