The Official Site for the 52 series is up and running (http://www.dccomics.com/sites/52/?action=main)

Its a cool idea I think. They have a Daily Planet website that details the headlines and newsmakers of the 52 year, like a real newpaper website. Theres a more detailed explanation on Newsarama.

I think its sort of a cool idea, and I hope they do more with it then funny little "in the DCU" stories, wich is all thats on there now, since 52 hasnt come out yet. I hope they recap what happenbs each week for those of us not planning to read 52, but they wont . Its still sort of a cool idea though, even if it is just icing.

And the adds, weather, polls etc are kinda funny.

I found the article on Fawcett city's team like it was foreshadowing Captain Marvel with all its talks of thunder.

d'oh! I may actually have to run down to my comic shop and PAY for a comic instead of just reading it at Barnes & Nobel...

I just visited it and that was an excellent website. I loved the Lex Corp poll and all of the advertisments

Don't quote me on it, but I am pretty sure that is how it is going down. I love some stuff in tardes, but then other times I love the single issues. Sort of varies for me. This I won't be able to wait for. I'll be going nuts trying to know what is going on.

Nope you're right, there will be no collection untill the year is over. Its pretty sleezy if you ask me.

Remember its not sleezy its good marketing. But, yeah it won't be collected until after a year. I'm just glad I already planned on buying this.

I don't think it is sleezy per se. Yeah it does demand something of the fan to invest so much, but it a great marketing idea. I guess I'd be more angry if I wasn't so stoked for it.

It's sleazy not to put out a collection until the story is over?

Ok, so sleezy may not be the right word, but it is sort of underhanded and cheap IMO. They start most of their regular titles with a huge chunk of continuity missing, leaving the reader with alot of questions, and giving just enough info so that to book is readable. They then go and create a series that answers all those questions, but make it weekly, and $2.50. By not relesing a trade or collections untill the years is over, instead of every 8-12 issues or so, that means anyone who wants those questions answerd in a timely fashion has to shell out *pulls out calculator* $130 ($182 for canadians) to do so. I understand 52 isnt just questions being answerd, there will be stories and characters, and that could be worth paying for, but not realesing the trade shows, to me at least, that they would rather make realy fat cash than just a regular fat amout of cash and appease the fans on a budget or who arnt as compelled.

But on with the discussion of the new site.

Is there a difference?

52 is a one-year-long, weekly story, and it's meant to be read in weekly format. Part of the reason they're doing this project -- and they've said as much -- is to get people excited about getting a comic in their hand every Wednesday again. This isn't MEANT to play to the demographic that waits for the hardcover or the paperback.

Personally, the Green Ribbon with the bubbles that's support for Bludhaven made me almost spit my drink out.

As for me, I don't see waiting till the end to compile 52 as sleazy. The thing is, you don't have to know what happened in the year gap to start reading the stories. You can catch up in other ways. Sure if you want to personally experience the stories, you have a choice to make. But you could think of it like I do as if I'd taken a year break from comics and come back (which I've done several times in my life).

Tuch'e

I still feel there is a unnessicary money grubbing aspect to this, but that does make sense. Though it could be said the the majority of the comic industry already plays to the "every wednesday" crowd. Also, not only weekly people read the regular DCU series. All sorts of demagriphics do. Why do the casual readers or trade paper back people have to wait to get their OYL questions answerd. If they are trying to encourage people to make the weekly treck agian (or start) I dont think this is the best way to go about it. (note: I said best. not bad, but could be better.)
