View Full Version : What would you like from DC Direct?

I've been thinking lately about the direction the DC Direct line is going, and frankly, I like it. They've been doing a lot of lines based on specific artists or specific storylines -- Alex Ross's Justice figures, Ed McGuinness and Michael Turner's Superman/Batman lines, lines for the original Crisis as well as Identity Crisis and Infinite Crisis and so on. Although I haven't been a fan of every figure (most of the Identity Crisis figures, I think, were sub-par) I like the way they're selecting what figures to put out.

So my question to you guys: what would you like to see DC Direct put out? What storylines would you like them to focus on? What artists would you like to see get the spotlight?

I've got two wish lists -- I'd like to see a Justice League International line based on Kevin Maguire's artwork. Think about it -- Maguire's Guy Gardner, Power Girl, Fire and Ice, Blue Beetle and Booster Gold... I would eat that up.

The other thing I'd like -- a Superman line based on the old movies. I want Christopher Reeve as Superman, Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor, Terrence Stamp as General Zod and so on. Heck, I'd even like to see Helen Slater as Supergirl. This may be a bit more difficult, as they'd probably have to get permission from the individual actors (or in the case of Reeve, his estate) to use their likenesses since any toy rights signed over when they made the movies would have expired by now, but still, if it COULD be done, I think it would be great.

A Darwyn Cooke line would be nice.

And I also liked how Mcfarlane did the classic comic book covers for his Spawn Series. If DC Direct did something like that with Feature Artists, I would definitely be buying a new shelf to add to my figure collection

Actually, I think a New Frontier (Darwyn Cooke) line IS scheduled to come out soon.

DC has done some "first appearance" figures -- similar to the classic covers, but I think it'd be interesting to see some of the really famous covers clearly represented to... Crisis on Infinite Earths #7, with Superman holding Supergirl's body... Batman #497, when Bane broke his back -- those could be some great figures.

They have Superman holding Supergirl's body. I have it in my shop. :P

As an action figure or a sculpture? I've seen the sculpture...

More Jim Lee and/or Michael Turner figures, the whole run of A-list villains and heroes, maybe let Ed Benes have some too.

Oh just a sculpture, didn't see an action figure. I'm not sure how that would work.

Well, it'd really be more of a sculpture like those Spawn figures -- extremely limited articulation and all. But it'd be cheaper, and could look just as good. ;)

Being a staue/bust collector I like to see more DC charaters like the way Marvel does. Theirs alot of Batman/Superman/WonderWoman but nothing really else. a Teen Titan like Superboy or Raven or a Outsider like Grace woudn't hurt. Heck even the Vertigo line should jump on this I like to own a Dizzy or Graves from a 100 bullets statue/bust.

They did a Teen Titans line last year that included Robin, Superboy, Wonder Girl, Brother Blood and (I think) Ravager, among others.

I would like seeing a really diverse array of characters, though.

I think those were action figues though. I meant more toward the statue/bust side. Like currently DC Direct is putting out a line ofa busts called "Women of DC" which include Wonder Women, Posion Ivy, Hawkgirl, Harley Qinn, Supergirl, and Power Girl.

Ah, my mistake -- I was still talking about the action figures. :D I'm not too big into the statues myself...

Heh -- that's the primary reason I'm not. I'd love to be able to get into them, but I could never afford it.

And even if I could, I have nowhere to PUT them... of course, by the time I can afford to get into 'em, I'll have my mansion and thousands of available surfaces waiting to be decorated.

I would love to see JLU figures. I have only ever seen them where they are liek 15-20 inches, but small action figure sized ones of EVERY JLU character would be great. Bruce Timms art would be perfect for toys. I would snap up Green Arrow and the Question in a heart beat. (there are no good GA figures, and no Question figures period.) If they have thiese, then, sorry, guess I should look harder.

Also I know this is about DC direct, but I think Marvel should release some of early series of Marvel Legonds. YOU CN FIND DEADPOOL ANYWHERE, ANYMORE. (And if you can, it will be like 50+ dollars.) So yeah versoin 2 of Marvel Legonds.

Great, I might have to check out the New Frontier Figures. And if DC every did a famous cover series, I sure hope they do them as action figures. Busts and sculptures are just way too expensive. I saw a really cool Bruce Timm Black Canary the other day, but $80 waaaaaaaay too much.

I just had a look at the New Frontier figures and I'm not digging them too much. I love Darwyn Cookes art but I guess it doesn't translate that well into an action figure. I kinda felt this way about the Tim Sale Long Halloween Batman figure (the other Tim Sale figures look great though).

Sometimes it doesn't work as well in three dimensions, I guess... I haven't taken a real close look at the NF figures. Do you have a link?

I agree with the former, not the latter, don't much like those figs.

I agree that Blackhawk looks really awesome. I guess I was looking for that "Golden Age Optimism" that the heros show on the New Frontier covers.

I believe someone mentioned Justice League International figures... I'd love to see Booster/ Blue Beetle, Guy Gardner/Ice, Captain Atom/Flash, and/or Rocket Red/ Elongated Man two packs... and then box sets of the Extremists and even the Injustice League. Maybe a Manga Khan figure, and a Captain Marvel as the Gray Man variant. But please, no G'Nort.

Other than that... um... huh. Can't think of much else.

Maybe a Team Arrow box set of Ollie, Conner, Roy, Dinah and Mia...

I KNEW it! I KNEW you were Anti-G'nort all this time!!!

I'd rather see Ice and Fire in a two-pack. Pair Guy off with Major Glory -- he'd appreciate it.

After reading Superman/Batman 26, I was getting a little nostalgic for Superman for All Seasons. After they finish The Long Halloween line, it would be Nice to see Tim Sale's Superman as a figure.

There are some jsa, jla, and gl characters in there. Unfortunatly your right, there hasn't been a question or huntress figure released yet. Which to me is very suprising since they were the central focus of a couple of episodes while atom smasher and aztek were not.
