And freddy gained the power of zeus thus becoming the new captain marvel.
Suprised?
Not really...

Well, no, that wasn't really a surprise. It wasn't a surprise that Indiana Jones found the lost arc, either. It's the nature of heroic storytelling. But the journey was a lot of fun, and that's what counts.

Im not saying it wasnt good, loved the zeus reveal.

What if any effect does this have for new earth? i guess it means theres another superman level character running around which can only be a good thing.

Wait, he did?

I've been thinking about this the last few days...and I've decided I enjoy stories where I know the good guys are going to win in the end. There's so much ambiguity in the real world, I like my entertainment to black and white.

Almost all of my favorite comic books are the ones where the good guys win, despite the long odds.

Maybe this doesn't make for the best storytelling, but for me it makes for better entertainment.

It's a bit more than that...
Freddy has assumed the full power of Shazam now, essentially making him Billy's replacement. More profound, though, is the fact that the rules of magic have been rewritten. The Tenth Age has begun. We're still learning exactly what all that means, however.

Well that probably get fudged up again in Final Crisis. They aren't very kind to magic....

Not sure I am following your assumption here. Do you mean to say Freddie now fully replacing Billy as CM or Billy as the wizard Shazam?

Gabriel Diaz

I think he means as CM

Blake Petit
April 4th 2008, 03:34 PM
Neither, actually.

Billy, as he told us at the beginning of the series, is no longer "Captain Marvel." He is now simply "Marvel," but he has replaced the dead wizard, Shazam. Freddy now has all of the powers intended for Shazam's champion, and is using the name "Shazam" himself.

Probably to get rid of the whole "Shazam" "Captain Marvel" confusion with the copyright. One of my biggest pet peeves a while back was when people called Captain Marvel Shazam. Now it *shouldn't* be a problem...

I think that's EXACTLY why they did it, Justin.

Ok so you're saying the wizard Shazam had champion Captain Marvel and now the wizard Marvel has champion Shazam, makes sense. But has Billy actually been called the wizard Marvel?

Now it is over, what makes of Mary Marvel and by the way what is Zeus status over DC magic since he assigned Shazam to balance magic on earth?

The Greek Gods who gave Mary here powers are the Wonder Woman Olympians who were prisoners on Apokalips.

The gods of magic in ToS are more abstract gods of magic from some higher realms of magic. This is IMO another not so subtle link to the Vertigo DCU comics.

Of course I recall reading some second hand rumors that in an upcoming appearance by Freddie, whatever writer does it, basically disregards the status changes.... and Freddie also appears in his old costume.

Really? What's up with DC editorial these days?

Again, don't quote me on this, as I mention its a second hand rumor. Basically someone on one of the comic forums, maybe CBR, commented that IIRC, in an upcoming JLA, Freddie appears, in his old costume, and does some stuff that indicates that some of the things in ToS did not happen or are being ignored.

Edit, the person on the forums stated that the writer of the upcoming JLA appearance/arc is the one who stated as such.

So Mary Marvel's restoration comes direct from the Greek Gods, rather than going through the Shazam gods? So are the related in a sense? The Greek Gods who gave Mary here powers are the Wonder Woman Olympians who were prisoners on Apokalips.

Billy is now known as "Lord Marvel" and is immensely more powerful than he was as Captain Marvel.

Oh I knew the Billy being way more powerful in this role as when he was CM but just never saw him addressed specifically by a name, though could have just missed it.
