I ream somewhere in the DC database that Earth 1 characters have nothing to do with Post crisis characters. That the current Superman is not a weakened version of the current post crisis Superman, but is in fact a whole new character all together. If thats the case, what happened to Earth 1 Superman? Was anything ever explained?

E1 Superman is not the same as Byrne's or New Earth Superman (who I maintain is the same guy character-wise).

He could reside on what is now Earth-1 one for all we know. But if you're like me, you'd like to think he exists in a pocket universe somewhere, with his finale being Alan Moore's "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?"

Earth 1 Superman died in COIE.

Was that the story where superman faces Mxyptlk? Wasn't that non cannon?

It was an "imaginary story", but then Moore said "aren't they all?" I took that as meaning this is a definitive end for the E1 Superman. He never got a finale otherwise...

So all Earth 1 and 2 and so on and so forth died after COIE?

Earth 1 Superman died in COIE.

OK, Mark, explain this to me. I've got COIE, so what happened to the "Pocket-Heaven" they went into?

They ceased to exist, there was one Earth with elements of all the Earths on it...but was more like Earth-1 than anything.

They broke out.

I saw that, but Mark explicitly said he died in COIE. If IC is cannon, he died then, not in COIE.

That's E2 Superman. Mark was talking about E1. Who IIRC didn't die...so I'm not sure what that was about.

OK, got them confused. But I still don't remember E-1 Superman dying in COIE.

plus Superman-Prime refers to post COIE as earth one

He didn't. Not sure where that's coming from.

It shares the most similarities with Earth 1, and is peppered with elements from Earth 2 (JSA), Earth 4 (Charlton heroes), Earth S (Marvel family), and Earth X (Freedom Fighters).

New Earth is not Earth 1, Emo-Prime just calls it that. New Earth is Earth 52 if it has a number.

It was specifically referenced that way, IIRC in 52, as in New Earth and Earths 1-51.

While I agree with Mark about the fate of Silver Age Superman, I personally would like to think that he exists somewhere in Hypertime or another Creation.

Does anyone think that the latest JSA annual throws some light on but then more questions on this topic?
spoilers in case someone has read that book yet
According to that Earth-2 continued on after the original crisis. Did it continue on unknown to us from the time of the original crisis, or just from their perspective from that point but from ours from after IC?

They seem to be aware that the earth that PG went to after the crisis (New Earth) was an amalgam earth and not the Earth-1 they were familiar with before the crisis.

So it could be that if this is E-2 from before the CoIE that E-1 is also out there somewhere.
but then...
Blake posted a good question in the JSA annual review thread about if this Earth-2 has its own Kara wouldn't also point to it having its own Kal-L? Thus making it not truly the same as the Earth 2 from before CoIE.

Arrgggg I hope this gets answered soon

Was the whole point of the original crisis to weaken Superman and make it easier to write stories for him?

No, that was one of the purposes, but not the only one.
