GREEN LANTERN #36 REVIEW
Review by: Walt Kneeland (walt.kneeland@gmail.com )
Quick Rating: Story Title: Rage of the Red Lanterns part two Sinestro is held prisoner by the Red Lanterns led by Atrocitus while Hal learns about the Blue Lanterns and the role Ganthet wants him to play. Writer: Geoff Johns Pencils: Ivan Reis Inks: Oclair Albert Color: Nei Ruffino Lettering: Rob Leigh Assoc. Editor: Adam Schlagman Editor: Eddie Berganza Cover Art: Shane Davis, Sandra Hope, & Ruffino Publisher: DC Comics Not too much to say regarding the issue's story that hasn't been said before. Johns is crafting one heckuva tale, and where a couple years back the Sinestro Corps rose to prominence and dangerousness, the GLs now have a number of other Lantern Corps to deal with--the Red Lanterns possibly the most overtly dangerous at the moment. There's also a bit of ambiguousness as to the role the other Corps will play. The writing is consistent and the characters generally pretty interesting (not as interesting as I would like, but Sinestro gets a good moment in this issue, and there's something to the Blue Lanterns and how they might interact with the GLs that intrigues me). The art team is giving us high quality art...whether the depiction of humans, or the Guardians or the various 'alien' characters, everything looks like it fits together. No complaints from me on the art. Where I do have some compaint is with the lateness of the book, lack of recap page and/or editorial note (This issue continues from Final Crisis: Rage of the Red Lanterns, a one-shot that came out a number of weeks back as a tie-in to Final Crisis). Additionally, a minor quibble with the otherwise well-done cover: I missed this issue last week, because when I was looking over the week's new books at the store, I mentally tuned it out as just another of the many, many re-colored variants that come out all the time. All in all, a strong issue with great art and a story that keeps things moving forward as we head into the home stretch before Blackest Night. Whether long-time fan or curious about the story from that Final Crisis: Rage of the Red Lanterns issue, this is well worth its cover price. Just an outstanding issue with a nice surprise at the end.

A lot better than the Final Crisis tie-in.
