I just listened to the show on my MP3 player while preparing dinner, and I really enjoyed it.
I agree with the comment from the listener on the Deadpool-Weapon X story, and the portrayal of Sabretooth. It's very difficult to perceive how he could ever be regarded as a member of the X-men based upon the portrayal in the "Agent of Weapon X"-storyline. Victor Creed is one sick *******. Good call on the Deadpool/GLA issue, a really good read. Daniel Way-Chuck Austin.... I will disagree, if I may, on the X-Force/X-Statix comments. That team was X-Force in name only. Although I really enjoyed the X-Statix vs Avengers storyarc, and the Dead Girl mini was a gem, the shock effect of this "different" team got a tad lame after a while. I don't know how to put it, but it never felt like an X-book. Doop?? ![]() |

But shock effect? I have to disagree -- this was a book with real substance, it wasn't just trying to startle you with big moments or twists like some writers I could name... when you got down to it, it was a book about the characters and their relationships, and that's what made it work.

But if the omnibus is ever published, I might buy it (even though I have all the single issues). |

Well, eventually they DID call it something else.
Yes, killing off the team in the first issue was shocking, but it wasn't JUST for shock effect -- it demonstrated something about the fundamental nature of the series, and it made you fear for the real cast in a way you wouldn't have otherwise.

I didn't feel for the cast because they were not presentes that real. But that's just an opinion on my part.

That's where we've got to disagree -- I found the cast to be far more realistic than most X-titles, for the reasons I stated in the podcast.

Hmmm This time the biggest issue I have is with the movie stuff.
There were plenty of folks who hated Blair Witch. My brother and my bud Larry saw it the night it came out, and they despised it. To date, I've never seen the film because they vehemently warned me not to. Similarly when Larry and I went to see Cloverfield, we were probably the only two people in the theater who liked it. There was a huge chorus of boos as the end credits rolled, so there were plenty of folks who hated that film too. If people are saying they hated Cloverfield in a year, I'll believe it even if I disagree with them.

Oh, I don't deny that there ARE people who hate Cloverfield now. I was just commenting on the people who will DECIDE to hate it a year from now because all the Cool Kids are doing it and they are incapable of forming an opinion on their own.

You're always going to have that problem. Wait another year to hear all the BND-comments.

(Note for those of you who don't get the joke: No, I haven't read any BND comics. I despise OMD and all its dark works far too much, and I'm not spending a dime on BND out of protest, no matter HOW good I'm sure it is, considering Dan Slott wrote the first arc.)

A few Quick, Corrections on things that I said,
First Cloverfield was written by Drew Godderd not Davied Godderd. And the Hulk: The End Hardcover, Has Future Imperfect, and The End, and Not THe last issue of P. D. run. Sorry for the Mistakes. |

Personally I loved the film. In spite of this, when the credits rolled, the entire crowd booed and my friend and I looked at each other confused. Did these people not read the text at the beginning of the film? What did they think was going to happen? The audience should have known exactly how the film was going to end. As we were walking out, I asked him how it was possible to be unprepared for the end of the film. One guy said, "I wasn't surprised. I don't understand how anyone could be." Also in a review I read online the reviewer also mentioned that the ending credits resulted in a chorus of boos. It seems to me that this is a movie a lot of people just don't 'get.'

As far as character moments, I felt sympathy for Anarchist and his identity crisis and the Orphan's reluctance to be a circus freak mutie Too bad they never really integrated the team into the rest of the Marvel Universe (oh yeah, they're all dead!) |

HULK: THE END was originally written as a short story for a collection of Hulk stories called Ultimate Hulk, which was edited by Peter David. I loved the comic version but the prose version was more powerful to me.
If you liked FUTURE IMPERFECT I would dig up a copy of Incredible Hulk: What Savage Beast, also by Peter David. It's sort of a sequel to FUTURE IMPERFECT and a kick butt story to boot.

I never read X-Force, but I may have to see about scrounging up the Milligan run. It sounds interesting.
