2 IN 1 SHOWCASE EPISODE 60: GREEN ARROW

Episode 60: Green Arrow
by Chase Bouzigard and Blake Petit

After an inexplicable five-minute tangent about Lost, the guys get around to their second annual St. Patrick's Day Green Tribute: Green Arrow. The guys talk about their favorite stories with the emerald archer, the different versions of the character, and how his transformation began the transformation of the entire DC Universe. In the picks this week, Chase loves the cover to Black Panther #34, while Blake tells us how Action Comics #862 is one comic that lives up to its name. As well you should.*

*2 in 1 Showcase does not condone excessive drinking, especially in light of Chase's behavior last Saturday night. Don't drink if you're under 21. Drinking and driving can kill a friendship. Someone pass me a Zima.

A very interesting episode. Green Arrow is a character I know little to nothing about. Or should I say "knew little about".
I did buy the "Quiver"-trade, cause it came cheap (roughly 3 dollars) and you can't pass that up. I didn't do anything for me actually. I like Kevin Smith, but aside from Daredevil I find his comicbook work to be tad boring.

Magneto= gay? No f'n way.

I did pick up the first volume of George Perez' Wonder Woman run, "Gods and Mortals", and absolutely love what I'm reading. The originstory is awesome, and it all reads like "Clash Of The Titans". Thanks, guys, for the recommendation. And it doesn't hurt that I love Perez' art as much as I do Byrne's.

OK I am not trying to start any rants on Magneto. This should stay about Green Arrow. When I sit Down to read A story with Magneto, I just think of him as gay. Marvel has never sapported this theory, nor would I want them too.

I think well will do a Magneto show so I can, show you guys.

Glad you're enjoying it, man! I told you guys that there were good Wonder Woman stories out there!

(Clash of the Titans is a favorite of mine, too.)

I'm really enjoying it. Up to Chapter 5 where the sons of Ares are trying to start WWIII. And I love the artwork. Simply phenomenal. That's the way comic art should be. I'll shut up about WW now.

If you guys can recommend a great trade on Green Arrow, I'm all ears.

The Longbow Hunters is the obvious one... it's a shame, there aren't too many others of Mike Grell's run.

I also like both of Kevin Smith's collections, and the one by Brad Meltzer, Archer's Quest.

I'm extremely weary of Kevin Smith.
The Longbow Hunters must be in demand, because at amazon it's no longer in stock or out of print, and the prices from various sellers are way beyond coverprice.

True, true. We didn't really mention the recent Green Arrow: Year One miniseries. In my case, that's because I didn't read it. Did you, Chase?

Smith never did anything for me either, especially on his Green Arrow. Quiver read more like Kevin Smith Tours the DC Universe than anything else - some people swear by it though.

The Longbow Hunters and nearly all of Mike Grell's run is fantastic. It came out of that same Post-Crisis era in which Jeanette Kahn and Dick Giordiano were pushing into more adult territory with the DC superhero line and into the birth of Vertigo. I went flipping through Grell back issues a month or two back and it just made me mad to see what Green Arrow's come to in recent years - Smith, Winnick, and even Meltzer's runs (which was the best of that bunch) aren't even in its league.

First two then I dropped it. It was not bad, but the longbow Hunters was written. It felt forced. Oh blake did you get my e-mail?

Indeed. I shall look over it post-haste.

Me, I skipped it because it was written by Andy Diggle, and I'm not really a fan.

But The Longbow Hunters wasn't really a Year One. It was more of a "Year Middle-Life Crisis" or a "Year Ollie Grows Up."

Heh, and there's a thought. Do mid-life crises in the DC Universe all involve Anti-Monitors and punching the wall between universes?
