Hmm, I'm cautious to listen to this show considering Iron Man is one of my all-time favorite characters. Judging by some of pics up, we may see some things "differently".

This is a strange podcast. I start off totally agreeing with Chase for the second time ever! I don't like Iron Man as a character. I always thought he was a Bruce Wayne ripoff (they might as well have named his butler Alphonse) who they gave too many flaws in an attempt to make him interesting.
Then we get into the Civil War discussion, you guys sound like me and Wolverace, and then I am back in Blake's corner 100%. I actually finished Blake's comment out loud when he stopped himself from saying what this story is a piece of. Iron Man was the villain of Civil War, and I can't understand how Chase can say otherwise. Chase -- Tony Stark made a deal with Norman Osborn. Let me rephrase that: Tony made a deal with the man who killed Gwen Stacy. That deal allowed him to become head of government agency with all past crimes erased. Oh, yeah and the guy who killed Karen Paige is also let out of jail and allowed to run amuck killing people. Why did Tony do these things? It's never explained in the story so pretty much just to villify the U.S. Government. I'd bet money Millar checked to see if the burgler who killed Uncle Ben was still alive so he could make him the Secretary of State (Marvel's legal department shot down Mark's plan to make Joe Chill Chief Justice of the Supreme Court). Civil War was propaganda. Anyone affiliated with the government is pure evil, and everyone in favor of civil liberties is a hero. Yeah, I know I'm going to tick off a lot of people by saying it, but you guys opened the floodgates... Tony's not a villain? He got the guy who killed Gwen Stacy pardoned. Case closed.

Spider-Man made a deal with the devil. I think that pales in comparison to Tony making a deal with Norman Osborn. Because Mephisto's an actual devil who's body count and trust-worthiness is far more suspect. So if you want to call people villains, call Spider-Man one. And it wasn't just his love for Aunt May, it was his own selfishness at not wanting to feel guilt for her death.

I would call Spider-Man a villain if I read One More Day, but I refused to. I will never acknowledge it as having taken place.

I'm not defending the storyline by comparing it to OMD, I'm calling your assertion that Iron Man is a villain based upon that decision incorrect and asserting myself that by that logic no one at Marvel is more of a villain than Spider-Man.

Well I disagree completely. Gwen was a beloved character whose brutal murder still haunts Marvel's flagship hero (and his fans.)
Tony Stark got Osborn pardoned for that murder. That makes him a villain in my book. And yes, Peter Parker is also a villain if you count One More Day. I do not. The main character in those comics who made a deal with Mephisto that traded away his life with Mary Jane is NOT Peter Parker. Not the one I spent my childhood reading about. I should also add that the character in Civil War who makes a clone of Thor that goes kills a man and then feels no remorse is not the Reed Richards I spent my childhood reading about either.

Norman was not pardoned, nor was he charged or convicted with that murder

Then why is he running a government agency and not in prison? He did break out of prison in a comic also written by Millar.
I recall a Thunderbolts comic where the real life White House spokesperson was discussing Norman being supposedly 'reformed' with the media.
