2 IN 1 SHOWCASE EPISODE 69: MARVEL MOVIE BLOWOUT

Episode 69: Marvel Movie Blowout
by Chase Bouzigard and Blake Petit

Prepare yourself for the biggest 2 in 1 Showcase ever! With no less than five comic book movies coming out this summer and more planned for the fall, the Showcase boys decided to do a two-part episode talking about all the Marvel and DC movies to date. What neither of them expected was that both parts would be gargantuan. In this double-sized episode, the guys break down all of the Marvel films by franchise, debate the merits, and give their own rating of each and every one -- and the discussion lasts longer than some of the movies! In this week's picks, Blake loves the new Guardians of the Galaxy, while the conclusion of "Last Son of Krypton" makes Action Comics Annual Chase's choice. Next week, the guys tackle the DC movies, in another giant podcast! E-mail us with your comments, "Ask Chase Anything" questions, or anything else at Showcase@comixtreme.com!

Pretty long episode, and halfway through.
This is turning into one of the best episodes you've ever done. Very insightfull. Opinions will always differ on some topics, but we're not all the same.
Thumbs up.

Sorry about the length -- we were both pretty astonished at how this episode just kept going and going and going and going...

I usually like to burn the podcast to a CD and listen while I drive around on Sunday. I guess I'll just have to listen at home today.

The length didn't bother me, because it never got boring. The background Chase gave with each of these moments was excellently done, and that was of the most interest to me as there were things I didn't knew before.

As for rating the movies in question, I didn't always agree but taste is personal.

If you can play MP3 CDs it'll still work.

That how I archive all of our shows, actually -- we're currently on the fifth volume.

I wish I could. I'm also not audio savvy enough to split it up myself.

OT, Blake, you mention you are about to finish Buffy season 5. I just watched the season 5 finale last night (I'm packing to move and buffy are the only thing I kept out to watch). I had forgotten how good the season 5 finale is.

Well, you wouldn't have to split it up. If you burn it in MP3 format instead of regular CD format, you can fit a lot more onto a disc. I've got episodes 61-69 ready to go on a single disc, and I've still probably got room for one or two more before I have to burn. But it all depends on if your CD player will play MP3 discs.

That high score for Rise Of The Silver Surfer...we don't agree. I almost fell asleep during that.
At least I didn't walk out of the theatre, which I did with The Hulk.

Interesting talk.

The subtitle "X-Men United" never made any sense. The film is "X2 Mutants United" because the plot is about the two warring factions, the X-Men and the Brotherhood forming an alliance to confront a mutual enemy.

I hate film Magneto. I hope saying so doesn't get me pegged with the dreaded 'H-word' but his characterization is simply wrong. Sorry.

Like Blake said, "He's already a holocaust survivor." It wasn't necessary. You don't need anything more. That made me think the director was going out of his way to alter a major character to make a point to the audience.

Unlike Blake saying he couldn't picture anyone else playing Magneto, I still don't feel like I have seen Magneto in a film. I've heard many people say this and they often get tarred and feathered with the "H-word" so I hope that doesn't happen, but I hate this version of the character and I don't think that makes me a bad person.

Nuff said about that.

In my opinion the best comic film ever made is Spider-Man 2, followed closely by the original Spidey and the X-Men films. I agree with all the complaints about Spider-Man 3 but I still like it.

Another good show. Good to get your opinions. Here are some of my thoughts:

In X3, They couldn't use the cure on Phoenix. Wolverine was the only thing that could get close enough because of the healing factor.

I liked the Hulk movie a lot. The reason most didn't like it was that is wasn't the movie they expected (most people want Hulk tearing up stuff for an hour and a half). With the exception of the fight at the end, I thought the movie was very good. I liked the look and I liked the way it looked at the Hulks psychology.

I enjoyed the FF movies, but I don't really remember them (except that Dr Doom was butchered). I perfer a bad movie to a forgettable one.

I did not like Punisher much at all. Jane played the character great, but the story just didn't do it for me.

Can't wait for the DC side. Now if I can only get an MP3 Cd player for my car before next week....

Y'know, we're used to inspiring people to buy different comic books, but I think this is the first time we've ever made anyone want to go out and buy stereo equipment.

I never felt like Magneto was portrayed as a homosexual. When you mentioned it, I was surprised as I never really saw it before.
