WOLVERINE: ORIGINS #26 ADVANCE REVIEW

Review by: Blake M. Petit Blake@comixtreme.com
Quick Rating: Below Average
Title: Son of X Part One
Rating: Parental Advisory

Daken’s origin begins.

Writer: Daniel Way
Art: Stephen Segovia
Colors: Matt Milla
Letters: Cory Petit
Editor: John Barber
Cover Art: Greg Land
Publisher: Marvel Comics

Last issue, after hiring Deadpool to kill Wolverine, Wolverine has captured his son, Daken. (Yes, it was as bad as it sounds.) This issue we begin a two-part flashback to Daken’s origin.

Daken, since his inception, hasn’t been so much a character as a walking plot device. This issue really doesn’t help flesh him out too much. It basically answers the question, “What if Wolverine were a jerk?” He’s a bad seed from the beginning, someone who comes out of the womb angry and carries that anger with him right to that moment where he can’t take it back. The contemporary storyline isn’t that much better, and doesn’t really progress that much except for a weird cliffhanger ending.

Stephen Segovia’s artwork is okay. The flashback sequences look good, with some nice backgrounds and good colors by Matt Milla. I think he could probably do with a different inker, though, someone who can define the characters a little better – his noses especially.

This is pretty much in the same vein as every issue of this series – in essence, not worth the price of admission.

I think people are being just a little harsh on this current arc. The past few issues have been a lot of fun!

2 stars...thats like 4 times the score you gave last issue Blake :P

I can't really comment since I've only read 1 issue of the title and it was actually ok...problem is that I have better books to buy with my money :P (Daken does sound really lame btw)

Really, you don't know? It was revealed back when Logan was fighting the winter soldier/bucky. bucky even told wolverine he killed her and the unborn baby, that is the reason why Bucky is helping Logan.

I picked up the last arc b/c I wanted to see how Way handled Deadpool. I really don't have much hope for the upcoming Deadpool series. IMO (and I am sure many, many others) this is one of the worst books Marvel puts out, and Way is unmatched in his abiltiy to write absolute **** stories
