Another tale of Asgard past…

This is apparently the second of three Thor one-shots featuring Matt Fraction reimagining actual Norse myths in the context of Marvel Comics. The first one suffered mainly because Fraction chose two virtually identical stories to tell. This issue we have one story told in two parts, and it’s all the stronger.

When he was young, Odin fell in love with a Frost Giant maiden, but she betrayed him. Now she has returned, and to celebrate, he summons three of the greatest blacksmiths in the nine worlds to create gifts to commemorate the occasion. I recall reading this legend years ago, and it works very well with the Marvel interpretations of the characters. The second part of the story (like the previous one-shot) inserts the Enchantress into the proceedings, but it doesn’t hurt the book.

The two art teams work well together. Although they have slightly differing styles, the styles the use contrast one another nicely, and I like the overall look of the issue. Plus we have another great cover by Marko Djurdjevic, who has done so many covers lately that I don’t even have to look at the comic anymore to spell his name.

A good one-shot – definitely stronger than the previous one.

I don't enjoy reading Thor, but I liked Fraction's first issue. Much better than the stories where Thor sits in a box and thinks about doing stuff.

Yeah, I've given up on Thor as a monthly pull (maybe I'll pick it up in trade) but I've been meaning to give AoT a look-see.

I'm assuming you meant Norse and not Greek myths?

I enjoyed the previous one-shot issue. I didn't have any cash on my so I had my comic shop put this on hold for me on my file.
