ULTIMATE X-MEN #96 ADVANCE REVIEW
Review by: Blake M. Petit Blake@comixtreme.com
Quick Rating: Fair Title: Absolute Power Part Three Rating: T+ The X-Men seek the source of the Banshee! Writer: Aron E. Coleite Pencils: Clay Mann & Brandon Peterson Inks: Carlos Cuevas & Brandon Peterson Colors: Edgar Delgado Letters: Albert Deschesne Editor: Bill Rosemann Cover Art: Gabrielle Dell’otto Publisher: Marvel Comics Frankly, the Jean stuff here is kind of dull. The cosmic X-Men stories have always been hit or miss, and this is a big miss. What’s more interesting is where Wolverine turns for answers as to why he’s testing positive for Banshee, a drug he’s never taken. With most of the Big Brains unavailable, he turns to the littlest big brain he knows. The unexpected guest-star is pretty entertaining, and what he discovers is a pretty big surprise. The artwork isn’t bad here – it’s fairly generic, but it’s passable and tells the story. Some of the colors are a little dull – pages with nothing but blues and oranges make sense, considering the action, but they don’t really look that great. Plus, it’s virtually impossible to distinguish between a flaming Phoenix and a flaming Firestar. Not a terrible issue, but not even a pretty big cliffhanger makes it anything special. This issue was pretty sick.

I think I pretty much agree with the reviewer about this issue. I kind of liked Kitty's costume; and I like how they let super-powered Jean stay on the team, as opposed to the regular books.
