Quick Rating: Not Bad Story Title: Boundaries part 1: Crossing the Line One of the original Blue Beetle’s foes return Writer: Matthew Sturges Artist: Rafael Albuquerque Colorist: Guy Major Letterer: Travis Lanham Editor: Rachel Gluckstern Publisher: DC Comics Review: On a simple patrol night, Jaime Reyes finds himself between villains fighting over the title of Hellhound. Meanwhile, Peacemaker’s new job puts him on a collision course with a set of new villains, while an innocent girl is caught in the crossfire, but may soon be even bigger trouble for the Blue Beetle and his supporting cast down the line. For the first issue by new writer Matthew Sturges this works pretty well. However, if you were a new reader you would probably be lost in the story. The narration keeps the book on track but... it feels like a retread of year 1 for the Blue Beetle. Super powered gang members, check. Relative of a major supporting cast member who is really a criminal, check. Peacemaker causing new head aches for Jaime, check. The opening with the two bad guys was actually pretty cool but it didn’t last too long. Oh well, its Sturges first issue in. I’m giving him some slack. Rafael Albuquerque returns to Blue Beetle and boy have I missed his work. He keeps the booking going very well and knows how to handle the quieter moments. However, like I said earlier, nothing really new is happening. The villains of this piece feel like The Posse and La Dama 2.0. The two Hellhounds at the beginning were the only thing that felt different. Buy this issue of Blue Beetle Here and save!
